People who talk about isolation wards. There is no such thing - this would defeat the purpose of isolation. There are isolation rooms.

I can't swear 100% to this, but I'm pretty sure isolation wards do exist, though they might be called something else. For example, the idea behind leper colonies is that people who already have leprosy can't catch it so they don't have to be protected from it, but everyone else does. I think this must also apply to other illnesses.

There is not such thing in New Zealand as an isolation ward. They do not exist.

There are isolation rooms which are located in various parts of the hospital such as ICU, NICU etc. A large city hospital has 4-8 isolation rooms, a provincial hospital will have 2, a regional hospital doesn't have them.

Isolation rooms exist to either isolate the world from the patient or the patient from the world. This is done via positive or negative pressure and isn't possible in a ward.

It looks like a ward for infected measles patients rather than a true isolation facility.

Isolation means something quite different medically (and particularly in regard to the physical design and HVAC) to what every one raves on about in the COVID thread.

I've built a lot of iso rooms and they are horrifically expensive and very complex.

If anyone is interested this is a fairly typical requirement for isolation.

Dormitory wards (ie 2/4 bed rooms) aren't suitable for isolation.

Why would any hospital put their iso rooms all together? It makes absolutely no sense, either for patients or the hospital. Hospitals are built around workflows which is why you have different types of patients all in one area (eg ICU, HDU, NICU, Maternity, Paeds etc)

Do you have any idea about how hospitals are designed, built and operated?

This might be a rural thing, but...

Delivery drivers who suggest it’s your fault that you weren’t answering your phone when they arrived at your gates at 7am without any prior arrangement. Because you were asleep having been working until 0100!

Do these people understand that they exist to serve their customers and not the other way round?!

Absolutely. Ghastly stuff. Did you know that growing lettuce is amongst the least efficient forms of agricultural land use possible and that it's nutrient value is so low that it is in effect a very expensive method of moving water to the dinner table? It tastes horrid to boot! Slimy cold lettuce, raw tomatoes *shudder*🤮
