You can change the delivery address per purchase, for example I have had some stuff delivered home and some to work. They don't ask you to resend them the copy of your licence. Why would they? its not like your home address is on it.

no it's not

but I'd get a call to verify my address changed and it's an order I made myself. well not if the reporter left a "fake" phone number as well.

too much details are left out in the original story, one could argue that so criminals can't "copy" them, the fact is probably it's an engineered stunt and couldn't possibly be accomplished by average joe criminal.

Considering they even used the licence holders own credit card, I'm not surprised the order went through.

So why isn't the license holder in the frame rather than the reporter? Is he such a good customer that Gun City is not mentioning his involvement?

Hard to know the actual facts at present. I guess we will have to wait for the police investigation to assemble the facts and publish those in the public interest.

Journalist du Plessis-Allan's position published a couple of days ago is unchanged:

"We didn't order a firearm for a bit of a laugh. We ordered a firearm because Greg O'Connor from the Police Association told the public on radio 10 days ago they could order a gun via mail order - without a licence. You can't just leave that information out there. Criminals listen to the radio."

Given what has been published already I interpret that to mean use someone else's licence and a different address, and possibly a different name. We know the licence number alone was valid, but that seems to be the only factor all published reports agree exactly on.

Looks like we may not know the facts for a few weeks yet when the police have looked into it.

Not sure why having a valid license number is seen as an obstacle. I assume they are issued sequentially and if you need a starting number, here's one.
