Yes, I thought you'd conveniently miss the point I was making. Never mind.

If you don't know what outrage addiction is, feel free to search the Internet.

People who get "outraged", or "appalled" as behaviour (or attitudes) like this, need some perspective.

Yesterday someone got onto a public bus in Australia and set a bus driver on FIRE. He died being burned alive. Lots of people on the bus as well. THAT is appalling. What MK did was inappropriate at worst and it should be over now that he has apologised (though even if he prostrated himself on a cross it wouldn't be enough for some people).

More reductionist hectoring. Yes, lots of people behave way worse. Cool - we don't need you to tell everybody that for other adults to know. Nor is the random sprinkling of internet shouting (i.e. use of caps) necessary to make this point. I personally also don't think it's a big deal in the grand scheme of things -- however, unlike you I don't feel a need to ram my views down people's throat ad nauseum, in addition to endlessly portraying others' motives using conclusory, determinative one-liners.

I agree with that only to the point where you claim that Max Key has apologised. I've seen that his father has "told him off" and "apologised on his behalf" .

If Key Junior himself has actually apologised properly, it would be nice if the media would report it, as "real men (TM)" shouldn't need to be verbally spanked then apologised for by their fathers when they're 21YO.

Meanwhile, it's going global:

DONALD TRUMP
"No one has greater respect for women than Max Key."

I am sure you were a shining example of perfection at 21, but I am willing to admit I was far from perfect and far from done with needing parental guidance at 21 (though sadly my 1 parent passed away when I was 21).

As I mentioned before, I didn't feel a public apology was needed, but he has apologized to his dad and assured him it won't happen again (Which is the point, right?!) and that SHOULD be the end of it.  He PROBABLY owes the cyclists (if they were offended and both cyclists I know thought it was funny and said they wouldn't expect

an apology) an apology, but unless they come forward, that is pretty much over.

Geektastic: The thing I can't work out is whether 'bike' can be used as a slang word here to mean the same as it can in the UK.

If so, he could have said that real men ride bikes and meant the same thing....

Yes it can. I think that was supposed to be part of Key junior's "humour".
Is there derogatory slang word to describe "dim-witted slutty young men".

Possibly, although I have no personal issue with referring to the slutty in derogatory terms since their behaviour is entirely voluntary.

You've missed a point - when men behave the same way, terms used to describe them (if there are any single words?) aren't derogatory.

So invent one. Who really cares?

Is it such a problem that one doesn't exist, that we need to expend energy coming up with a suitable derogatory word to describe it? Isn't the "whole world" now so worried about insulting or joking because it causes every freaking person to get offended?

Secondly, and more importantly, if such a term was coined, would the men who fit the term not wear it like a badge of honour, therefore defeating the purpose?

You're not "sure" at all.  You just keep making stuff up.  Bad form IMO - several times in this thread.

I see what you did there! Very clever.

But I agree, if anyone out of the public eye have said this would it be news?

Heh, you just beat me to it.

Seems some people just love to get upset over every little thing. I think they are addicted to their righteous indignation!

These posts are on page 1, its 7 pages now, I'm not reading anymore, even though by way of volume, its a very important topic!

IMHO he acted like a dick. But, its karma. 100,000's of thousand of kiwis now know he acted like a dick.

Yeah I'm out. I realized I'm just as guilty of keeping this thread alive and therefore making it a bigger deal than it should have been. I apologise.

I do.  Language is interesting, especially when in context of there not being a derogatory term for "male slut" unless they aren't heterosexual.

It's indicative of long established sexism, in my opinion of course.

The thread kept going because some folks went on a crusade defending "silly immaturity" as good clean fun.

Can you please stop shouting? It doesn't enhance the argument.

Young man makes an inappropriate joke in public, and told off by his father for doing so.

Which is the sort of thing that is pretty much par for the course for all young men at some point. Regardless of whether you approve of his behavior or not, it's not exactly bona fide national news.

Let's face it - the only reason this "story" in the Auckland Tabloid at all is because his father's name makes it useful as click bait.

Nothing to see here, move along.

(and yes, I would be saying the same thing if it was Andrew Little's son)

This type of thread is not about facts, or right or wrong, its about opinions. Its fine to say "meh whatever" its also fine to say "this is really bad". There is no right or wrong. There is nothing wrong with saying its whatever or its really bad. What is wrong is when an opinion is treated as its wrong.
