For my favorite winter break, its head for the nearest frozen dam to chuck some granite rocks around and partake of a dram or ten of Scotlands finest single malt whilst attempting to stay upright on both legs.
A very social, if a little chilly, time as a recreational pastime.

Last time I went on a winter holiday is in 2012, where we went up north for a roadie for a few days. Was really nice to get away from everything and just relax.
Most interesting and coldest winter holiday was when we went to Russia in 2000 to adopt two children. Icicles hung from the side of the train in minus 20C temperatures. Too cold to take a picture to upload here.
Oh no, not another end of the world prediction
On a limited income it is difficult to replace the Nokia E63 that falls apart. I use rubber bands to hold it together. Also have to keep it on charge most of the time.

Oh, definitely last year when we spent a weekend in Ohakune. The first time my kids played with snow, and it was awesome! They had SO. MUCH. FUN.
Just came back from Rotorua for a SPA trip with the family, very relaxing indeed.
We hired our own private spa at Polynesian SPA.
The best holiday in winter was in 2011. I went overseas first time with my wife after getting married. We skimped and saved for 2 years and blew it on a vacation 2 weeks long in Queenstown. First time experiencing snow was worth it.
Shark dive off Stewart Island. Not quite winter, but end of April down that way feels like it!

Things are LookingUp.... A photo from my back yard :-)
I've had a few good traveling highlights; walking the Great Wall in China, late night drifting downhill in Japan, boulder tossing on Lake Louise in Canada. etc
But one that sticks out in my mind was quad bike touring a massive cattle station in the outback near Alice Springs, and sleeping under the stars in a swag.

Strangely enough I've just started back at work after taking last week off. Unfortunately it wasn't a planned holiday, or even remotely like a holiday.
It was a week off to add to my week of bereavement leave.
Two weeks ago my brother decided to remove himself from this world. Its something you never forget, that 2am phone call, and then a policeman standing at your door..
In the ensuing week of well wishers, funeral homes, txts, calls, instant messages, photo sending/receiving my poor old Galaxy 5 has all but shuddered to a halt.
The screen is cracked (again) and it sometimes won't wake up to answer a call, or it sits there flashing screen on/off randomly.
I've had enough death of late..
This was my brother in happier times
#suicidesux.
My favourite winter holiday was Christmas 1999, when I spent 3 weeks in Winnipeg with my then fiance. It was a magical wonderland of Christmas lights reflected in the snow, sleigh rides, eggnog and true love!
Best Winter holiday I had was when my wife to be arrived from the UK to visit for her UK Summer holiday, and it was Winter here. We had a marvellous time travelling around the far North, with beautiful cool, sunny days. Missed a few good storms by a matter of hours sometimes, and there was always a friend's home to stop at with mulled wine or the like to warm the insides. Travelled around in my golden HQ Holden somewhat similar to the one pictured here that I found on the internet. Alas, the original Golden Holden has gone to the happy HQ hunting ground long ago.
I would love this phone!
My new favourite pastime is to head to Japan during our summer to find some of the best ever white stuff. The amount of powder you get is unbelievable.
It just happened to be a rare sunny day.

A weekend in Iceland. Sitting in blue lagoon hot pools - surrounded by snow and steam.

A winter break in the Pacific island of Rarotonga is a fond memory.
About 25 degrees in the day and everything is easy. They even use $NZ.
Be careful about what you eat or drink before snorkelling in the lagoon though ![]()
