Geektastic:

I am not sure whether this annoys me or concerns me - or both.

I went to download the new Mac OS, Big Sur, and got a dialogue box that said "Are you sure you want to download Big Sur?"

WTH?! Do you mean "..because it's big and time consuming" or "..because it might fry your computer"?!!!

I cannot abide "onboarding".

There is no verb "to onboard" 🤬

I onboard

You onboard

We onboard

They onboard

No. No and thrice No.

Onboard is a state of being - as in "onboard the ship" - not an action. Just stop your nonsense.

”Onboarding” is a noun (e.g. ‘I have completed my onboarding’), and “onboard” is an adjective (e.g. ‘this ship has an onboard casino’). These terms are very widely used. Get with the times.

Well, I think we can agree we're all onboard with that now?

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

Next person to use that term gets overboarded.

Onboarding has been in use for over 40 years. I’m sure there are many newer words people use without being annoyed by them. English is a living language and has had many change since old English.

Sure but that doesn't stop people being annoyed by certain words. This stuff isn't entirely/at all rational.

The New Zealand Media's reaction to Argentina outplaying the All Blacks...it's never about how good the opposition are, but always about how poorly the AB's played.

Give the Argentinians the credit they deserve! They played well, they won, it was an historic win and they deserve every accolade.

Argentina beating was always inevitable. Strong opposition is important especially with the absence of SA

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

It’s not rational to be annoyed by the appropriate use of modern language. It’s not rational to expect the modern world to be expressed in medieval terms. It’s not rational to be a stagnant thinker.

It annoys me that there are people who are expressively Luddite. Be a Luddite in your own world - don’t force it on everyone.

Where? I all my working life I have never heard it used until recently. The usual term is "induction" where I come from.

Absolutely agree, did it only once and swear never again!

My buyer wrote me a nasty and rude text saying we were crooks and had sold him a dud and reeled off about ten things wrong with the car and demanded half of the money back. (The car had a current WOF and I had dropped the price to what he offered to end the drama of selling). I called his bluff and told him to drive it to VTNZ by midday the next day and we would do a change of ownership and I would refund all his money...but first would check with police in case the car had been used for anything illegal. Never heard from him again.

There are some cultural differences here. Getting incessant messages asking for last price or best price gets a bit old.

It's still worth it rather than selling to a dealer just a bit painful.
