NZH "A police spokesperson confirmed a man was currently assisting police with their inquiries.

The stabbing comes after two men were stabbed, one slashed across the face, after an incident outside a Ponsonby bar early Sunday morning."

AND, this may be important, after WW2 also.  AND many other things.  Scary.

This headline from the nzherald today: An amazing new Porsche...

New Porsche 911 revealed, does 300km/h in four seconds

Ah no: "For a car that can do 0–100km/h in under four seconds and hit 305km/h, the new Porsche 911...."

From the Newsroom today: "Huawei a ‘trojan horse’ aimed at an achilles heel"

Er... That would be an arrow. Also "achilles" should be "Achilles". Yes, they tried to be smart with the whole Achilles being in the Trojan War, the horse, etc. Didn't work.

Looks like someone from the NZ Herald monitors this thread...

Our Porsche Headline is now:

Revealed: New 305km/h Porsche 911 shown off in Los Angeles

Much better... Thanks for the fix!

Such a lack of attention to detail. It spills over into many areas of life here outside the Press.

Not from the Herald , but couldn’t resist posting this little gem.

“Belarus has executed two estate agents who conned six vulnerable people into giving up their homes then killed them and buried them alive.”

Bravo, TV1 NEWS

Presumably they are already in a Worst Case Scenario where they hire captioning staff without any consideration of literacy.
And who probably don't understand "trivial" either.

Sigh

Problem is that many companies hire a lot of young staff who they don't have to pay as much, so it is probably a reflection on our education system..

Which may or may not be good in some respects but is utterly hopeless where literacy is concerned. The sheer volume of basic spelling and grammatical errors by people in jobs that supposedly require a command of English is hard to understand. I see such errors everywhere, in business documents, journalism, teaching materials, even legal and official government publications.

Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri? Which one you should pick.(sic)
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=12166119

On the face of it, a practical question, but on reading the article it was all about smart speakers and how they are taking over households in America.
No mention of the fact that neither the Apple Homepod nor any of the Google Home range of speakers are officially available in NZ. Neither is Google Assistant for that matter. It is just a direct cut and paste of an article from the Washington Post (attributed at the bottom).
If they are going to be that lazy and not even add any local context to it, they may as well just provide a link to the WP article.

I hate all the Americanisms creeping into articles supposedly written by Kiwis. Gas station, side walk, pay cheque and $h1t like that.
