Geektastic:

...

Also has anyone found the wonderfully-named Pocari Sweat here? ...

I've never seen it here though - has anyone?...

Bought some for my son from one of the Asian supermarkets place on Victoria St. in Wellington opposite Photo Warehouse.

Was about a year ago though, so not sure if it's still there or if they still stock it.

I had a taste of it...I don't know who this Pocari bloke is but if I had my way he'd keep his perspiration to himself.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

I saw it in an asian supermarkety thing in Newmarket Auckland maybe 5 years ago, I think it was Japan Mart.  I thought the name was funny for a drink and took a picture.  This place: https://www.google.com/maps/@-36.8671278,174.7759056,3a,75y,185.86h,92.12t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1siCBiOb0xMH_TJxCuNWdFtw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

It isn't showing on their website though.

I've worked in IT for a number of decades.

You get to know which broad groups of people are "Karens": horrible people to deal with on support calls.

I've recently had to support farmers. Of groups of people I'd rather not deal with, farmers are the worst.

From Wikipedia:

"Karen is a pejorative term for someone as entitled or demanding beyond the scope of what is appropriate or necessary. The meme evolved to depict white women who uses her privilege to demand her own way at the expense of others.

Depictions also include demanding to 'speak to the manager'..."

Groups I hated dealing with

  • lawyers

pros: never raise their voice, usually won't ask to speak to manager.

cons: won't take "no" for an answer. will twist your own statements, or anything printed, against you. Unnervingly patient, ultimately wearing you down. Lastly, will talk down to you like you're an idiot.

  • doctors

    pros: none

cons: similar to lawyers, but with God complexes and huge egos. They will raise their voices, will ask for your manager, will go over your head almost immediately. They feel they are experts in everything, even it's outside the field of knowledge.

  • farmers (in particular small semi-retired farmers)

pros: at least they don't talk down to you. They'll try to fix the problem themselves first.

cons: they often find themselves with a lot of time on their hands. While trying to fix a problem they get madder and madder. By the time they contact the helpdesk, they are furious.

will not take "no" for answer, even if the answer is "Sorry you're unhappy, Here's a refund. Use someone else's products."

will definitely make personal and repeated attacks.

will ask to speak to a manager almost immediately.

whether it's a free service (such as using a free web service) or you are already working on it (other custoemrs having same problem) or not makes no difference. You're going to get an ear-full of abuse.

never, never give these guys your mobile number, because they will call you or even drop into your office at odd hours without warning.

For doctors the primary and indeed only concern is saving the patient's life. Anything that gets in the way of that gets overrun or bulldozed aside. So while some of them may have God complexes, a lot of them are just being good doctors and putting the patient above everything else.

And if you grab the same tool that's been worn down by countless users before you you might slip and cut yourself on the misogynistic edge.

I don't like the term myself, for that reason.

Gods they may be, but some really lack street-smarts.

Doctors aren't always saving lives, and sometimes they're God-like attitudes and demand for excessive permissions and rights endanger lives.

For example, my friend works at a large hospital. Doctors are notorious for falling for scams, phishing attempts, opening "iffy" attachments with viruses, writing passwords on sticky notes, and posting them on their monitors.

A nurse will almost never fall for these obvious hacking attempts, because they will ask for help when they encounter something novel. (but they will write passwords on sticky notes, and fall for social engineering scams.)

A doctor's ego means they won't ask for help, thereby unwittingly creating chaos for others to fix.

There was one doctor at the hospital who seems to fall for every scams, even failing to spot an obvious "Nigeria prince" scam.

You can bet if a hospital gets hit by ransomware, it's a doctor that did it.

Honestly if it weren't for active measures by IT, every hospital network would be full of viruses.

Back when I worked in the insurance industry, Insurance Customer Service staff rated school teachers as kind of a cross between your lawyers and doctors categories 😀

Being part of the Lost Generation.

Every issue is framed as some kind of argument between millennials and baby boomers. Between those, sits a whole Generation X that is completely ignored.
