Digital volume controls that can be set in 0.5dB increments. Yay, you've got a 10-bit digipot, have a biscuit. And now when I want to turn the volume up I have to press a button thirty times in a row instead of two or three times because some plonker wants to show off the precision of their volume settings.

Yep.  When I re-clad our house after EQ damage, I put a flashing over the top of the foundation with folded edge downturn on the front, upturn at the back, air gap above to the cavity.  In some strong southerly winds, part of it somewhere vibrates like a musical instrument reed.  It should be an easy fix - to find it and jam something under it to stop it vibrating.  Problem is that it's only noticeable in the middle of the night, when the wind is blowing hard, it's cold, and usually raining.  So with the choice between getting up and getting cold wet and miserable to fix it, vs staying warm in bed and putting up with it, comfort wins.  It's been like that for 5 years and probably destined to stay the same.

Title screen of a game: Press any button.

I press Circle and nothing happens. After trying out all the buttons on the controller, I found that seven of them (up, down, left, right, L3, R3, circle) are apparently not "any".

Reminds me of that old joke about someone calling the help desk to ask where the 'any' key is.

And what’s the point? Why not just go straight to the next bit?!

We have a 9 wire fence in the paddock. It hums in the wind like a harp being blown over!

That's clearly NZ yen.

You were in NZ, had a strong desire to pay to get something, the price doesn't matter, your payment was accepted.  All is good.

Children and vaping.

I work near a vaping store. It only sells vaping products. It has a "strictly R-18" sign on it. I see a lot of students with their parents going into it.

I'm not sure of the legality. I'd guess like a liquor store or sex toy store, perhaps it's not allowed.
Anyhow despite it's legality of letting children into the store, it's debatable whether bringing students into the store is great parenting.

I guess you could argue it's better than leaving students in car or outside the store. But it does allow the students to hear sales banter.

I didn't realize new laws regulating vaping just last month took affect.

RNZ: Law banning vape advertising and sales to under 18s comes into effect

The Cancer Society is happy that marketing of vapes to young people and non-smokers will cease today, thanks to new laws coming into force.

From today it will be illegal to sell the vapes to under 18s and advertising and sponsorship of vaping products will be banned altogether.

Vaping will also be banned in legislated smoke free areas.

Certain flavours will be phased out, except at specialist retailers over the next 15 months....

...The regulations would be a relief to school principals, teachers and parents who had been looking for regulation, he said.

"We've had two years without regulation and that has allowed the tobacco industry to get a foothold on the messaging around vaping.

"Vaping is not harmless, these laws will play a vital part in protecting children and non-smokers from a highly addictive product they simply don't need, while supporting people who smoke to switch and quit."...

Also Stuff: Youth vaping - worrying epidemic or divisive distraction from smokefree goals?

Not so much annoyed but rather bemused at the recent increase in popularity of the word 'Digital' in corporate and marketing speak as though digital technology is some new-fangled thing.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

At the hospital I worked at, they rename IT to "Digital Services". And digital means something quite different in a hospital. Google DRE.
