Handle9: I saw some pictures of Pohutukawas flowering today. We were meant to go home for Christmas on Friday.

Yes, we dont get on, but that's a great pity

Handle9:

It is what it is. We have so much to be grateful for and there are people in far worse positions than us.

I have not spent Christmas with a member of my family since 2003; just seems normal to me.

This would have been our first Christmas at home since 2017 so it's not new just a bit annoying.

Spark Sport's really patchy performance on Premier League live matches this weekend.

Probably their supplier, but it's been unwatchable at times.

"Six times cheaper".

One sixth the price? Six times the discount from some notional market price?

Or some other meaning?

17 Years of running RAID 0 arrays in my home PC for performance across a variety of spinning and SSD's, zero failures.

Switched to a single large NVME drive, catastrophic hardware failure resulting in loss of all data (I had good backups) after just 10 days.

It's like leaving the house while carrying your Wand of Protection from Rain, never rains, and then forget the umbrella just one time and it buckets down.

But it's not a hard lockdown. Households can mingle and religious services are permitted, amongst other things.

It's so annoying that politicians won't do what is necessary but only what is easy.

@elpenguino What would you consider necessary that allegedly is not being done?

Why not copy little ol' NZ's example?

Form household 'bubbles' which cannot mix. Absolutely no gatherings.

No commercial premises open except for the sale of food under conditions which prevent people coming into contact with each other.

The way that some people think lockdown-lite will work would be laughable, if it wasn't so serious.

I'm annoyed with my neighbour today.

Sent her a nice note asking to go halves in cutting down a problem tree that spans the border between her garden and mine (she's actually rented her place out, so isn't there anymore).

Explained exactly what the issue is and how cutting it down is the only way forward.

She replied - It's being taken care of on 14th Dec.

Today is 14th Dec. and two nice men came and trimmed a few branches off the part of the tree that is hanging over our driveway...didn't do the bits hanging over our roof. Didn't cut it down. Didn't really solve many of our issues at all.

Annoying.

Very annoying.

Which works well in a self-sufficient country with a tiny population. It's a whole other thing logistically if you aren't those things. You are kidding yourself if you think our results weren't a lot do to with luck as well.  Some of the MIQ related misses could have seen us in an entirely different situation.

Cut it down. Thank your neighbour for sending the nice men. Tell her how it's all sorted now.
