Handsomedan:

Today is 14th Dec. and two nice men came and trimmed a few branches off the part of the tree that is hanging over our driveway...didn't do the bits hanging over our roof. Didn't cut it down. Didn't really solve many of our issues at all.

Cut it down. Thank your neighbour for sending the nice men. Tell her how it's all sorted now.

She came to look at it prior to having the "work" done.

I'll have to tell her in the early part of the new year that it hasn't solved the problems and that I am willing (once again) to go halves in chopping it down.

If nothing comes of that, I'll simply have someone come and chop it down at my expense and have done with it.

Handsome Dan Has Spoken.
Handsome Dan needs to stop adding three dots to every sentence...

Handsome Dan does not currently have a side hustle as the mascot for Yale

*Gladly accepting donations...

The odds of cyclone Yasa belting NZ over Xmas look quite high.

My desktop (which is actually a tower server with a Xeon CPU, 48 GB RAM and a NVIDIA GPU running Windows 10) started spinning the fans at 100% - which is a bit on the noisy side.

Temperatures are way below the critical level, cleaned up from all dust, BIOS/firmware/drivers all up-to-date.

And there's your problem. No matter how that sentence is set to finish, your problem is right there in the quoted bit.

Yes, and no. It was pretty quiet until recently. Something has changed - and I suspect one bit of firmware that might have caused it. But it is a small annoyance. Might drive me to sell this server and get a desktop replacement.

Update Tuesday has just been and gone.

Now I'm not saying it was Windows, but... it was Windows.

Which works well in a self-sufficient country with a tiny population. It's a whole other thing logistically if you aren't those things. You are kidding yourself if you think our results weren't a lot do to with luck as well.  Some of the MIQ related misses could have seen us in an entirely different situation.

Victoria, New South Wales, and South Australia show how it can go wrong. Queensland, Northern Territory, ACT, and Western Australia show how it can work even without a lockdown as aggressive as NZs. (Oops. Sorry Tasmania - you guys and NZ have something else in common!)

Farmers (store) advertising a kitchen knife, in which I’m interested, at 40% off. Check availability on their website and find (a) not available online (that’s OK) but (b) only three of their 16 stores in the Auckland area have it in stock. Closest is in Papakura - I’m on the N Shore.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Ask them to transfer it to your closest store.

We have done this many times.

PBT Couriers.

One day from Tauranga to Wellington. One day at depot waiting for driver. Four days with driver... Three calls one, email and no one can tell me when it will be delivered.

When they started in the 90's, they had the nickname down here of: "Pretty Bloody Terrible Couriers"!

Nothing has changed!

Back-to-school promotion; cheap deals on things required for a new year at school.

Oh. Right. Grammar police dispatched to @networkn!

I thought he meant some sort of advertising campaign for the schools themselves or the positions of pupils within.
