Binge watching The Fall with Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan again (second time around). A serial killer, Dornan, is loose in Belfast and is being hunted by Anderson.

It has lost none of it's impact for me with superb performances from both the leads and atmosphere and drama most other series can only dream about.

Superb. 10/10

The Expanse S2 first episode - Did it turn into a bad boring political drama in S2?

Altered Carbon first episode or two - Soft porn. Does he ever leave the red light district? Yes he left the red light district and the soft porn continues. Does he go to another planet?

I guess I have a very different idea of soft porn! Yeah, some sex scenes and nudity in Altered Carbon, and it’s faced some criticism by some that accuse it of misogyny, but very standard if not mild compared to the typical HBO show. I certainly don’t consider it soft porn, which is more like that ‘90s quality drama Red Shoe Diaries (I think it was called) with David Duchovny.

Fair comment. Good effects and the basis of a good story I just found it somewhat boring and dragged for all those cable-tv type segments. Oh more girls dancing naked ok..

I googled the criticism today. Looks like some objections to a later naked torture scene are the primary: https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=altered+carbon+soft+porn

These days people would accuse Alice in Wonderland of misogyny it seems.

Altered Carbon is a bit patchy - sometimes it's awesome and sometimes it's dull.

Expanse is an odd one. I've read the books and they are very good. Such a vast canvas and, like GoT, it's very hard to accurately bring it to TV because of that. There is so much in Expanse that the casual viewer would be left seeing and saying 'wtf' - not the least of which is Belter patois - that it must cause some confusion. They never really took  the time to explain what Belters are and the special effects give the Belters none of the physical characteristics that they are supposed to have developed from having an entirely zero G or low G life.

I like it (although the persistent pronunciation of Amos as 'Ehmusss' not 'Ehmosss' grates and the actor playing Jim Holden does not really equate to my mental picture of him) but I do feel that if I had not read the books, I would have far less of an idea what was actually happening.

‘Seven Seconds’ on NF. US cop show with shades of The Wire. Totally brilliant and binge-worthy IMO.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

No distinction here between mini-series and serial but if this thread includes both, I just finished the last season of The Bridge, which is a stunning Swedish/Danish crime production. I will miss Saga.

Now watching Midnight Sun, also very promising French/Nordic mini-series.

Saga is one of my favourite characters of recent times.

You may also enjoy Rita, if you haven't watched it already. It's a Danish comedy/drama with a flawed, but well meaning, teacher as its protagonist.
