I should put this in the smile thread - lucky our fibre was an aerial install.

Small annoyance: lazy bastards that leave the baskets behind in the self-checkout at supermarkets.

I confess I do this if I am at the shop on my own. They seem to place the racks for these away from the terminals. I can carry my bag or the basket not both. They should put the collection rack beside the terminals.

you try leaving the area with one in Rotorua and you get about one step before staff say "i will take that". You have to leave them.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Continually keen to roll the dice on getting a PS5 but life keeps throwing up financial barriers to stall it. Not to say I can't yolo it, but I'm ingrained to deal with needs first versus the wants.

Politicians claiming just for extension of the lockdown without Covid19 exit strategies. I think In exchange for restrictions of human rights at least I expect elaborated case studies for getting back to the new 'normal' or I am asking for too much?

Reading news from a Brazilian state's AG moving against a county that had blocked going back to school due to the covid-19 spread in that area. The AG says not going to school is harmful to kids so the county should not block it.

The AG is using the "it's bad for kids" argument but in the lawsuit doesn't present any fact or evidence of harm done. At least a study to show the impact on student's lives - or teachers' lives for that matter.

Both sides are acting like idiots - the ones asking for lockdown without an exit strategy (as @Tinkerisk mentions) and the ones asking for full opening without a health strategy.

Not asking for too much maybe, but from what I can see the vaccine rollout / availability is heavily politicised in a manner not perhaps expected by technical experts, so while not fully and freely available to all, compromises need to be made while things are still being learned.

The technical experts in public health probably have too much faith that the political process will deliver a fair science-based solution.  It's possibly a dumb idea to allow those at very low risk of harm or death priority for vaccination because they think their "human right" to travel freely is being infringed - when that means those more at risk are shuffled down a queue.  Then again they still don't really know fully about efficacy of the vaccine in the elderly etc, the efficacy of "one shot" over a longer period than the one month used in trials etc.  It's complicated.

rWith ' human rights' I don't mean personal pleasure(s). But when Covid19 restrictions in the private daily life become much more strict than in the office (economy) it could lead at least to some questions.

We're in lockdown since nearly two month now and most propably will be for another 1-2 month. There should be careful opening strategies depending of the numbers coming down and the vaccination progress.

Shadowfoot:

Eva888: Spending all day with the Chorus man here installing the ONT only for him to be unable to blow the fibre through the cable from the road. Now they have to come back and dig up the berm to see where the problem is.

Not directly related, but in November Chorus arranged an assessment for fibre for us. They found they could not use the conduit used for the phone, due to some blockage, and would need to cut a shallow trench in the asphalt drive. The drive will need to be resurfaced in the near future, and the preparation will rip up anything using a shallow trench. We said we won't proceed at this time.

Yesterday another person from Chorus came to try to have fibre installed. 🤦‍♂️

Why do I suspect my saga is going down a similar path? Chorus haven’t turned up as promised and we have a concrete driveway covering their cable.

The lifeless ONT is screwed to my wall for ornamental purposes only, complete with flashing lights for drama. I have no internet. Forecast is rain and Southerlies. Now waiting for the plague of locusts.

My boss...whose micro-management techniques and lack of EQ are really starting to grate me to the point that I will likely start looking for a new job, after only a year and a few months in this one.

Some people should not manage other people. They should go into senior roles without people-management responsibilities.
