If a scheme to feed kids at school was run by the government it would take more than half the allocated budget to administer the programme

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Lorde paying to help the poor vs the middle-income family struggling might not be they only two options here.

It’s worth remembering that the biggest beneficiaries of Lorde’s creativity would be Universal Music and retailers such as Apple. When an Album is sold on iTunes, Apple takes about 30% and yet Apple pay very little tax in New Zealand.

Perhaps that would be another option, for corporations to have fewer tax loopholes available and pay a greater share.

Another option would be for the government to take real action on housing affordability instead of just talking about it.

Then those middle-income families might not be “struggling” quite so much and the poor might not end up spending most of their money on rent and perhaps have more for food.

I’m glad she donated.

Dalton said the children he feeds go “wide-eyed” when they see a piece of fruit.

Don't sound like they need or even appreciate the assistance they're given. Sounds like the parents need a "healthy eating" course instead!

I think you misunderstood me. I think it's great that Lorde donated; I think it's far better that people give willingly what they want to, than taxes increased to take money that people have earned. Wouldn't it be great if people gave so much money in donations that taxes were unnecessary?

Same applies for time - it's so great that in NZ, most firefighters are volunteers, doing this valuable work just for personal fulfillment.

I don't get people discrediting others for their donations because of the size of their income! How do you know she hasn't made 10 more or 50 more donations that size? Have YOU donated? What was your donation as related to YOUR income?

Thanks to you I now know that I never ever ever ever EVER need to read anything from that website again, because of the mind numbing stupidity of what I read on it this one time.

That link popped up in Google now, and contains something I didn't know. Her accountant made a rounding error left her 40k in hand (taxable income), she didn't mind some tax credit - which suggests she regularly donated, so half of that went this charity - it could have gone to any charity. She spent other half on a mat. Good on her.

Bottom line is she made some random donation to feed some kids, the kids are not really hungry, but not eating healthy

Why the rage?

I thought this thread is about how we ensure kids are well fed n well raised, nothing to do with how much she or anyone earns.

The rage isn't limited to him. I am so angry right now that if I allowed myself to express it, I would be immediately banned from Geekzone, which I don't want so I am biting my tongue. Some of the comments here are so mean and petty and small-minded that I can only imagine those making them must have had seriously deprived childhoods themselves. Shame on all of you for the cheap shots and crappy insinuations. This kind of thing utterly disgusts me.

The joke is on me, I had no idea - that herald reference should have raised a red flag but I wasn't thinking

A lesson on not jumping conclusions reading random stuff on the net, even in Google now cards - which clearly needs some tweaks

Or yet another option might be for these artists, who seem to get outraged at so many other things, to insist on big corporations being good citizens and actually paying tax?
