Amazon NZ will launch in March 2018. Until then, keep this discussion about Amazon Australia.

I looked at motherboards memory and cpu etc and none of them can be delivered to NZ. So will stick with Amazon USA as there are so many that will ship here.

kobiak:

it's fully launched now

https://www.amazon.com.au/

Maybe the term 'fully launched' isn't how I would describe it... maybe 'soft opening' would be better.

As a test, I tried to order an electrical item, it wouldn't accept my NZ address as valid... probably because the item wouldn't work in NZ without a special power adaptor.

Then tried to order water filters for my Samsung fridge / freezer (an item that I know is sold on amazon.com for a fraction of the price that NZ retailers sell them for)... not listed.

I'll come back when the teething issues have been resolved.

It would appear they don't support shipping to NZ on any products at this point from their Aussie distributuon centre. This isn't a teething issue, it seems to be their intention.

The few items I looked at were more expensive than AU retailers, and in most cases the NZD of NZ retailers also.

I'm sure they will bring their 'No Margin' game at some point, but so far, not impressed. I suppose they still have to buy all their stock from the same suppliers as the rest of the retailers, so their starting points (at the moment) are about the same.

Behodar:

Edit: It looks like "no delivery to NZ" might be a bug; I've tried several items including little things like DVDs and they all say that they can't be sent to NZ, despite being signed into my account, with my address selected, and availability supposedly filtered for my address.

I've always had that problem with Amazon, where you select the "Ships to NZ" filter and it still displays products that don't ship.

So far with the AU site a few things I've been wanting are more expensive than NZ. Guess its going to take a few years for them to start making a big price impact

Trade NZ and US shares and funds with Sharesies (affiliate link).

In the top-left corner of the home page there's a button labelled "Deliver to New Zealand". Click it and you can pick your address and supposedly filter (although as pointed out, it doesn't seem to work).

Maybe an opportunity for NZ Post to expand YouShop to the West Island.

That's amazing news - do you have a reliable source for this?

Is that  to give the NZ retailers enough time to get their act together  or for them to lobby the government to protect them??  :-)
