Eva888: Saw it on TV about the Titirangi Post Shop. Felt very sad that they are not guilty of any wrongdoing and have been pushed out of their family business where they work hard and don’t bludge off the system. So that’s their reward for being decent tax paying citizens. Not much incentive for being straight is there. What an example for your kids...work hard and be honest and you’ll be forced out by criminals.
As an aside to this, when they try to get insurance for anything they own now, one question will be how many claims have you made in the past five years. Their answer will raise their premiums, so a double slap in the face for these innocents.
Eva888: Most people in Wellington will know Mike the Juggler who used to perform on the streets wearing a home knitted woollen hat. Kids loved his performance and he had a very child like demeanour. It appears he is one of the victims of the lodge fire. Sad end to his life.
Such a tragedy.
I can't imagine what the mother had to be going through and what she will need to live with for the rest of her life.
That doesn't even cover the misery of everyone else affected. You'd never get over it.
I find it amazing how things that wouldn't have even registered on my radar really affect me these days, especially as a parent.
I find myself really empathising with people who lose kids or are victims of crime etc.
Every day I get more like my dad.

I used to only feel empathy for those who were affected by crimes like parent kills kid and be judgemental AF about the perpetrator of said crimes. Same with suicide. Now I feel sad for everyone involved and wonder how people get to that state to do such things.
I recall being in the ward the day my son was born and seeing 'don't shake your baby' posters everywhere and thinking 'what on earth would possess someone to be so mean and stupid'. Turns out, you deprive yourself of enough sleep and if your baby cries enough, the urge comes fairly easily. Thankfully my wife and I were able to see the signs and relieve each other. I can't imagine how tough it is on single parents, esp ones with not enough of things like money etc..
When I catch myself thinking 'that could never happen to me', I take a deep breath and consider that many things I never thought would happen to me, have happened.
People disappear and die every day, but for some reason this story has impacted me more than most. This is a completely innocent lady, with a husband and child, just going about the regular business of her daily life and job. From the media accounts she seems as inoffensive as anyone can possibly be, yet it appears that someone has likely done something terrible to her. I don't understand why this kind of thing has to happen to people. I am so sorry it happened to her.

I live in the area, wife is Chinese, but thats not relevant. Took 2 days off last week to do chores run errands, I did see the Police at the Wigram Air museum, and elsewhere. Odd, but ok, its todays world. Whether its near here, or not, its disappointing and sad to say the least.
In my team at work, stuff happens, "always happens in America". No, it happens here too, on a semi regular basis.
EDIT
“We’ve always held grave concerns for her wellbeing, but as the week has progressed, and in particular developments over the last couple of days, we are now launching a homicide investigation.
“We have today informed Ms Bao’s loved ones of the development, and we know it is the news that they did not want to hear. Our thoughts are with them.”

Eva888: Australian 45 yr old male child care worker arrested for 1,600 cases of abuse against children 91 kids so far.
I would like him sent to a country that implements sharia law for justice. Western jail is too soft a fall for these offenders.
Not so sure about that. Child abusers are at the absolute bottom of the pecking order. He will be lucky if he only gets gang raped before he is stabbed.
