MikeB4: Having to cut short our holiday touring Te Ika ā Māui and return home due to COVID-19
Where were you when you had to make the decision to return and where were you returning to? (Thinking of the inconvenience factor here...)

Venting here:
DHL delivered my parcel to my neighbours today. Fortunately the tracking has a photo of the handover and I was able to find out which door to knock on. But I'm annoyed for three reasons:
1. Delivering it to the correct address is a basic! They couldn't even manage that!
2. I specifically left intructions on where to leave the parcel, by my door - without signature. They ignored that.
3. They've knocked on the neighbours's door and had them sign for it. I'm pretty sure they shouldn't be doing that at level 3!
Anyway, I called DHL to moan and they were pretty good about it and they'll look into it. I just want the driver to be told to sort himself out!
Saturday delivery parcel just arrived here on Monday, around lunchtime.
It had food in it.

Regarding the wee stir over spelling: I don't think anyone here is targetting people who have a genuine reason for poor spelling and grammar. I only see people complaining about people who can't be bothered to spell properly even when they have spellcheck at their disposal. It's taking the piss. To me, it's lazy and disrespectful to make people decipher your writing *if you have no excuse*.
Where I work, a high level of attention to detail is a necessity and that extends to spelling and grammar. A wrong letter or numeral can cause problems and, in some circumstances, can be problematic for the company as a whole. So if I'm looking at the CV of someone who claims to have a high level of attention to detail and they spell things incorrectly, then they're unlikely to make the shortlist.

I hope it wasn't an Uber Eats 😁
DHL replied. Nice and prompt. But the driver's excuse was that he didn't feel the spot I'd requested the parcel to be left (behind the bins!) was safe... and so he gave my parcel to the neighbour. Somehow that is safe? How does he determine whether my neighbours are honest or not? There was no note or communication left to explain where the parcel had got to and it's only because the photo taken at handover showed the neighbour's distinctive doormat that I knew where to go. Even if they'd left me a note saying that they'd left the parcel with the neighbour, what would happen if I went over to the neighbour and they simply denied they had the parcel? I told this to DHL and they've agreed that the parcel shouldn't have been left with the neighbour. DHL kind of dodged the fact that the driver has not performed a contactless delivery (2m separation), even though I pointed out that the photo shows the driver's shoe on the doormat with the neighbour standing just on the other side.
Hopefully the driver learns from this. I can't really expect much more.

I'm not really sure if that is safe for you, but if you have roll-up doors garage at yours, you could try leave it slightly open from the ground, so that parcel can be pushed in.
November last year I was expecting parcel, and decided to vent the garage overnight, opened it like 20cm from the ground and left like that. Totally forgot about the garage door, was working at home, someone knocked on the door, and I see DHL van drive off 15 sec later, I was like f*** off i'm home, if they left card I will scream at them!
Opened house door - no card, checked letter box - no card. I was angry as... walked in to the garage and parcel was nicely pushed under the door about 1m inside the garage.
Since then, when I expect parcel, I leave garage door slightly opened and every single parcel was pushed in! signature, non-signature delivery, all end up at my garage. Can't be any happier :)

I get the same with the cat door. What's particularly impressive is when the cat door signs for the delivery...

We were in New Plymouth and were planning to do the Mount Messenger route to Auckland. We of course canned the plan but decided to get out of New Plymouth, we didn't want to risk staying there. We made the decision to return to Hutt City and see what happens Wednesday. The rest of the vacation could be spent in the Wellington region.

Reminds me of a botched "my food bag" delivery last lockdown - they were overrun I know, but they missed my delivery due on a Sunday and was told it'd be delivered the next day. Didn't come monday so I called again - "it'll be there tomorrow" - nope. Turns up Friday. I expected it to be a fresh box. Nope. It was the one that was meant to be delivered the previous Sunday
Yummy rotten fish and other things!

Oh wow, where did you find this cat door?! I should get one just for deliveries - I have a permanent authority to leave in place but they still decide to take some packages to the post shop which I can only get to on a Saturday and it disrupts my work day because I need to be out the door by 6 and they're open 9 - 12 :s
Yup. Me too. I feel his pain. It is exactly what I experience all of the time. I am so bloody sick of it!
