Glad that none of my details are on any of their spam lists.

Do you guys think we will still see bigger discounts in store? Or will they now be saying something like "What we dont sell, we can move to our Warehouse to list online"

I doubt Mr Kogan will be buying any stock - just the name and database I would think.

Just received the email giving the option to remove your details from the list being sold to Kogan.

Surely it's quite normal when selling a business to include the customer database of that business? Why would anyone buy an existing business if they had to start building a customer base from scratch anyway? Might as well just set up a new company and go from there. Buying a customer database like this isn't the same as an entity selling your details for profit to whoever wants it. Kogan will be the sole owner of the database. Of course having never bought a business, I could be entirely wrong.

Yeah, I don't imagine he needs a million HDMI cables (at any price) sitting around. tongue-out

Me too - the email is online here.

Edit: You have until 5:00pm on Tuesday March 22nd (one week from today) to opt out if you don't want your information passed on to Kogan.com.

I got my wife some Sony headphones at 50% off in the Sony Wellington store closing sale last week - at least Sony seem to know how to do a sale properly.

Funny that, the Headphones I got were Sony and Sennheiser

I also got the opt-out email. It has a compulsory field for "last name" despite only requiring one name when creating the account. Do people even bother to check these things?

I hope you didn't put your real name in. I just put a fictitious name in so when they ignore my unsubscribe request and send me spam addressed to 'Star' I'll know who sold my details.

As the online business was a total shambles & customers were rightly mad as hell, the database might be more valuable than a name. Coke and Cadbury were only damaged goods, DSE destroyed their brand and reputation.

On a lighter note guess what the Dick Smith Riccarton guys are filling the wall space from the nearly sold out travel adapters? You guessed it! Plastic packs of HDMI cables.

I actually had a friend that worked there several years ago, and I went in there to return a keyboard, which required contact details. He informed me of this, got my agreement, then entered my details without any further prompting. It wasn't until he printed my receipt that I discovered he'd entered my name as Behodar tongue-out

And that is how I know that the database only has a first name for me!

Kogan didn't buy the business though - he simply purchased the Dick Smith IP and customer database.

Selling the customer database with the business is normal, and this clearly occured in 2012 when Dick Smith was sold.

sir1963: Kogan.com is Aussie $ prices and our GST is higher here in NZ than Aus.

NZ$650 = Au$577, so in AU$ PBTech is already cheaper and its working with higher GST rates.

Kogan charge AU$28 for shipping bringing it up to AU$589 = NZ$663 then there will be GST on top -> NZ$762

Kogan.com is in NZD if you shop using kogan.com/nz/ instead of kogan.com/au/. All the Kogan links in my previous post were for the NZ site so prices were in NZ dollars.

I think their delivery charges are quite reasonable - I've been charged higher rates by some companies for shipping within New Zealand. I agree with comments about GST though, and there are potentially customs fees, etc. to be paid.
