The Expanse - final episode of season 2 (Netflix NZ).

Fair to say that it's become more "spacey" than it was and the girl from Shortland Street who is playing a Martian with a strong Kiwi accent isn't doing the show any favours, but it's also a good political drama and a generally good action scifi (in my humble opinion).

Looking forward to season 3 when it gets released here.

It's hard to say whether she isn't right for the role, or it's just because we've seen her in Shortland Street and because we are Kiwis ourselves.

There are a lot of different accents in the show, so for a non-Kiwi watching it her accent may not seems as out of place as it does for us.

The Rain - Ep 1 on Netflix. I liked it mostly, though I am finding the dubbed English over the original language is going to be too distracting in the long term for me to continue.

Yeah man, i'd rather have the subtitles.

Well said. It's been a very long time since I saw the original but I remember that you clearly knew who you wanted to win at the end, so it will be interesting to see how they conclude this without a defined hero/villain.

The bit I really liked (not really a spoiler) was how Johnny bought up in episode 1 how Daniel won the original tournament with what should have been ruled an illegal kick. It was a little thing, but good attention to detail.

Two of my kids are heavily into martial arts... the tournaments are unrealistic in that under valley rules people would be getting severe injuries.   I understand the theatric attraction of upping the violence, so all good.

Couple of cool things that stood out to me, are Daniel round housing on his competitors boba tea (or whatever new age nonsense drink it might be).

And, the generational clash between the old way of doing stuff, versus the new pansy attitude of generation snowflake.  It is like Johnny missed the last 30 years in a drunken slumber and just woke up.  The guns'n'roses comment from Johnny is an example.

Watching Star Trek The Next Generation with my daughter - currently on season five out of seven. Lots of interesting social issues - the most recent one is about gender (The Outcast).

Killing Eve. Unsure if I will continue, but it's ok so far.

Sandra Oh would be about my least favourite actress. I despised her on the very few Greys Anatomy I saw her on. She is almost as bad in this.

Worth it for Jodie Comer.

The Missing (ep1) - Its a crime drama about a father searching for his missing child. What a great first episode. Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Here's hoping the rest of the season is as good as the pilot.

Broadchurch Season 3 - Not completely satisfied with the ending but the journey to get there was great.

Im the same in finding the dubbing a little distracting.

So Ive turned on the English subtitles over the original ?dutch ?Swedish which works a lot better with sound syncing with the lip movements. (Netflix on ATV)

I did the same watching "3%" which I think is in portugese.

Is that the same The Missing that aired on TV1 last year (the missing Alice Webster)?  Or the first series with the missing 5 yr Oliver Hughes (from 2014)?  I wasnt that taken by S2 but missed S1 so interested to know if its worth delving into the archives.

'Found' that series 'somewhere' several months back. It's excellent.
Liked the ending as well. Won't say any more....

Exactly what I was going to point out.

Select Danish as audio with English subtitles and normality is restored. I recall having to do the same, selecting it for each and every episode, on another series (El Chappo).

It’s stupid how Netflix selects the dubbed audio as default, but this may reflect the preferences of certain markets (I think there’s a wide dislike of subtitles in the US); it would be useful to have an option that simply defaults to the original audio. I’d usually not bother watching a programme if I have to put up with dubbed audio.

Americans don't like to read, though most Europeans are the same. Only a few countries like Holland never use dubbing, though this may have to do with cost in a small market. I also have a hard time with it and usually won't watch something I can't get subtitles for.
