I remember when kogan first launched in NZ saying about the better prices that they would bring. Hasn't really been that great so far in my opinion. They haven't brought in the big items (TV's etc) to sell in the NZ market. A lot of their cameras are sourced from Hong Kong so having a $400 duty / customs limit vs $1000 in Australia really works against them. Signing up for their NZ site, they send me emails that are only relevant in Australia.

So, in NZ, I haven't been too impressed with what they have achieved so far. Not sure if the buying of the database will push them into providing more coverage in NZ, or, if they are still going to concentrate on Australia.

Just walked past Dick Smith Takapuna and thought I'd pop in to check if there were any good deals yet.  Doors closed and staff pulling security grilles down.   Two police cars parked nearby but I'm not sure if that has any relevance.  Are the other stores still open?

A robbery possibly?  From what I know, shops close temporarily while events are investigated by police.  As far as I know my branch is still open.  I'm going to put on my conspiracy hat and say it was an inside job in order to make a few insurance claims, haha.  Let the theories roll in!

The real robbery is the prices they still want to charge for most of the stock...

Found this on a wall in the Lower Hutt store - they're trying to sell the shops gear now.

Time to charge your phone.  DSE will probably have a home brand cable for that, on sale at $45.

Yeah and the phone cases are more expensive than they were at Christmas. I still rock and S4 and though if they were $1 like then rather than the $3 now I'd set myself up with a life time supply.

Do you guys think we will still see bigger discounts in store? Or will they now be saying something like "What we dont sell, we can move to our Warehouse to list online"

Kogan has only bought the rights to the IP and name etc, not the stock.

Dick Smith Online (or whatever it ends up being called) will have no business relation to the original brick and mortar stores

Are they also the port of call for CGA claims? I recall the receivers mentioning that should the company be sold, that buyers would be looked after by the new owners. But does that also apply now if they aren't keeping any of the stores operating?

No to the question about CGA claims. The new online only Dick Smith is a new/different company. The old company was unable to be sold.

Dick Smith Riccarton have more Xmas trees and golden reindeer for sale. Can't remember prices sorry. The reindeer have led lights. Piled up next to the old clever dick counter.
