Nope its not a story from April 1st ...

Competitive grocer Supie disappointed suppliers asked it to up their prices
https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/131725226/competitive-grocer-supie-disappointed-suppliers-asked-it-to-up-their-prices

""
Suppliers to online supermarket Supie have asked it to raise the shelf price of products despite it having no financial gain for suppliers.

The most recent Supie investor update from the board of directors said the store was doing well and had grown orders by more than 150% in less than three months.

But once section raised eyebrows.

“Supie is obviously making an impact, but we’re seeing the pushback from this with multiple suppliers reaching out to us concerned that our prices are competitive with the duopoly and demanding that we increase retail pricing, despite maintaining reasonable profit margins,” it read.

Patently illegal. If it's found to be true, expect the Government to do absolutely nothing.

The mayhem at stores and malls today. It's been one whole day without shopping and I'm surprised rioting hasn't broken out somewhere.

Behodar:

This is what happens when you have a computer work things out and don't have a human to verify. A recipe calls for 41 247ths of a 6-pack of eggs. This works out at 0.996 eggs. Are they storing egg counts as floating point numbers or something?!

Maybe they’re allowing for the 0.004 of the egg that you can’t get out because it remains inside the shell.

It's more about the sales and the fact usually people don't have as much time to shop.

https://www.1news.co.nz/2023/04/08/celebrity-chefs-join-forces-to-help-reduce-food-waste/

Each year, around 150,000 tonnes, or 271 jumbo jets of food, end up in landfills.

I'm not aware of the jumbo jet being a unit of measurement, it's certainly not an SI unit to my knowledge. Now is that jumbo jets by weight, volume, or the amount of food consumed by passengers on it?

This is even worse than the usual MI (media internationale) units of olympic size swimming pools  or rugby field.

On the subject of jumbo jets, the food they throw out at the end of international flights for biosecurity reasons is mind boggling.

Ref: Personal experience and no, I didn't measure it

So many that it would be the size of Wales.

The “government” doesn’t direct prosecutions.

The commerce commission would be responsible for taking action. Like the police they act at arms length to the “government.”

They have tried that and Stuart Nash got sacked as Police Minister as a result.
