Snowhite and the Huntsman.

Good CGI, good fight scenes, acting was good.

The Well Diggers Daughter  - lovely slice of life movie (French)
The Valet - great comedy (French again)
Chinese Takeaway - another slightly black comedy but excellent (Spanish and Chinese)

Sorry, no laser beams but well worth a watch.

Chinese Takeaway (Un Cuento Chino) - 9/10. Ricardo Darin is one of my favourite actors. I guess he's a bit like Jean Reno for Argentina.

Nine Queens (Nueve Reinas) - 9/10. What can I say... another Ricardo Darin movie...

Volver - 8.5/10. Definitely one of the better Penelope Cruz movies out there.

Haywire 7/10 The film was made as a vehicle for Gina Carano of MMA fame. Enjoyable spy thriller, great support cast with decent pacing and the fight scenes looked more realistic than most fights in films with not just female leads but most male leads too.

The Raid:Redemption 9/10 Highly enjoyable with some magnificently violent fights. There was the odd part which didn't make sense, one of the good guys telling an injured man to leave their knife rather than pick it up which left them unarmed, done as a setup for unarmed fighting but silly that it was so obvious.

I have bought, but not yet received, the "Bond 50" 007 boxset. I'm mainly posting this just for the comedy email that Amazon sent me:

Very nice!  Is it DVD or Blu Ray?

I completed my Bond collection on DVD last year (sans Quantum of Solace), with a copy of the first 20 films in the "Ultimate Edition" 2 DVD format, though the packaging changed slightly at some point, so they don't all quite match.  I got Casino Royale on DVD in the "hardback" 3 DVD format a few years back, and managed to pick it up on Blu Ray this year.  Would be very nice to have them all on Blu Ray...

Blu-ray. I only owned 3 of them and managed to sell two of those at $20 each, so this £75 set wasn't too bad in terms of the net cost :)

The Expendables 2 - 8/10

I finally got round to seeing the second Expendables film last night.  I can confidently say that this is one of the dumbest films I've ever seen, with some gaping holes of logic and continuity, and ridiculous stunts and action.  I can also say with equal confidence that this was one of the the most fun films I've seen in recent memory.  All the major action heroes are here, happy to send themselves up, in a generous homage to the ludicrous action films of the 80s.

Stallone, Statham, Lundgren, Willis, Schwarzenegger, Norris, Van Damme - all terrific.  Some extremely cheesy one-liners and not just winks and nods, but full head-shakes to the audience as they riff on the signature lines from all the classics.  Arnie "is back", Willis "yippee ki-yay"s, and Norris gives a great turn halfway through the film acknowledging the legendary Chuck Norris "facts."

No Oscars here, but lots of violent action and fun to be had.

I noticed that JB hifi has a 6 box set of The Avengers + the other movies that tie into that series for about $120. I might buy that for the Mrs for Xmas.
