RIP Blackie. He was given the lethal injection this afternoon.

Poor thing got sick again (today) and the very nice vet at Pet Doctors PN advised that it was best to let him go now.

I'll put up a couple of photos later on.

Blackie, I love you. You were my nearly constant companion from November 2000 until now. I'll never forget all the snuggles I had with you, my baby.

This has come at the worst possible time as I am being made redundant from my job as of 14 Nov. Oh well, life has to go on...

We put some nice flowers inside the box with him.

It's nice to have him home back where he belongs. He has a nice spot in our garden now to rest forever.

So sorry to hear that. Their time with us is so precious, very glad you had great memories with him.

Riley on left was diagnosed with FIP two weeks short of his one year birthday. Spook on right live to a ripe old age of 21.

We make cakes for each dog's birthday in our family, but this was a special occasion for Hurley. He turned 9, and that's quite an advanced age for large breeds. He is the oldest in our pack, my first dog.

Sorry to hear that Zolly. Only one year old is a raw deal. 21 however is amazing.

Thanks so much everyone for your kind words. I feel totally numb today and my partner and I can't stop crying.

So sorry to hear this. A few months ago my friend lost her companion of 15 years - he had been with her through so many major events and changes in her life and it was heartbreaking to let him go.

When she adopted him back in January 1999 she was going to a really tough time and when he died she said to me "animals come to us when we need them most, and leave us when they know we're okay to carry on without them".

Thanks alasta, much appreciated. I adopted my fur baby from the local SPCA. He was 10 months old at the time and unwanted by his previous owners!! I feel privileged to have been around for almost all of his life. I gave him a good life and he was very well loved.

What kind of animal did your friend have?

Hendrix was a short haired black and white moggy. I used to look after him when my friend was away and he was really affectionate and appreciated my company so I could see why my friend was so attached to him. Unfortunately he developed lymphoma and my friend spent a lot of money on some quite bleeding edge treatments which kept him alive and happy for a couple of years, but in the end there was only so much that the vets could do without him suffering.

I've been thinking about getting a cat myself since there are lot of them in need and I would enjoy the company, but it would be a nuisance when I'm away on holiday and landlords often don't like animals so I'll have to think about it carefully.

Hey Alasta,

(Mrs Darth here).  Thank you for your kind words.  Our Blackie will always be a very special part of both our lives.  Kermit had him for a lot longer than I was on the scene.  There will be many little habits that he had that will be missed.  They really do touch lives in a way that people quite often do not.  What will be missed most is the unconditional love he gave us both.  It is going to be hard for a while to come, but memories last forever. :) Ascension
