yeah I too found the fact you can't edit seemingly dumb. Its not as though its a full and final test or anything...so why not allow editing up until the closing date/time.

And yeah I saw the telephone and just figured it was a landline...even though mine is an ip phone so not really a land line either ;P bahaha anyhow, generally speaking I give it a wholesome thumbs up because its so damn easy/painless. Nice work!

Stats say they will send out packs to school camps for kids to fill so parents should just report who is in the household on the night.

What if you are so drunk you have no memory of the 6th of March?  That would make "I don't know" a legitimate answer to several questions.

With dedication and planning one could start drinking on the 5th and lose several days.  Although a quick trip to Oz might be cheaper ...

Is it right that I don't have to fill in the census because someone else in the house has filled it in for me? Apparently someone in the house entered the code online and filled in everyones for them. They would have  known all the answers though I am guessing, although I don't know all the questions they asked. But I would have thought that there should be a way to prevent that happening though.

I'm wondering how they can guarantee privacy of our information by way of the Statistics Act 1975, when they slapped Google Analytics on every page AND the servers collecting the data are located in the USA?

Genuinely impressed with the usability of the mobile version. Some little things made it a lot better than I thought it would be.

Calling for a numeric keypad rather than the standard keyboard for numeric fields is something I rarely see and didn't expect.

do you have to fill in the household form if no one will be in the house on census night?

Severely under whelmed by the online stats process.

1 - Not accessibility friendly. Almost impossible to use with keyboard and no mouse. Starts with focus in wrong field, some drop downs not accessible easily (d doesn't get daughter and there is no s for son as an example  ). Tab bounces with incorrect tab orders on some pages. Fields sit below screen when tabbed to - got to tab to end of all options then go back up again. This despite assurances it has been tested and optimised.

2 - dumb logic - my barely 15 son is too young to legally smoke, be searching for work or be allowed to work and answering those dumb questions when logic of being in high school full time should preclude answering those.

3 - gender - lgbqt*** are going to be pissed - male / female and ... no other options.

4 - Despite saying they were wanting people to help in the community to get disabled, community orgs, elderly etc helped - they didn't despite repeated efforts to try to get them to get us involved. Lots of our clients stressed as couldn't complete on time or at all. Had to reassure them the census folks will send out paper forms - maybe.

5 - the forms had truckloads of white space requiring you to scroll for miles and see bugger all on one screen

6 - forms held answers between people - e.g. ethnicity - keeps previous peoples answers but a simple idea like all 4 under age kids living in same house and locations as parents escaped them.

My wife wants a paper form - really didnt like it -

Paul1977: My partner and I completed ours a few days ago, but since then she has had to change some travel plans and will no longer be home on the night of the 6th. No way to change the forms once completed.

This seems to be quite an oversight as they are encouraging people to complete it early, but sometimes unforeseen things happen.

No idea if the flatmate has completed the census form. I have done my form and the household form last week, and left the letter from Stats NZ on the fridge. (so he can get the access code). I didn't put his name on the household form, As I had no way of knowing if he was going to be at home tonight.

So presumably if he doesn't complete a form, Stats NZ won't have any way of chasing him to complete it. What would have happened if I had put his name on the household form, but he doesn't come home tonight. Yet has completed a form at another address? Are Stats NZ smart enough to cross reference things like this? Or would he get hounded to complete a form that he has already completed.

I am wondering how many people are going to have similar issues. Also how many people will fill in the form on peoples behalf, and then it may get filled in later if they aren't sure if someone else filled it in. I don't think it is anywhere near as good as last time, which I filled in online last time. At least when yo have a piece of paper for each person, you know if it has been filled in or not.

Well it’s come and gone and we didn’t get ANY forms to my house at all!
No internet coded one, and no paper version household one either.
Nic, nada, nothing!

How do I then fulfil my ‘legal obligation’ to participate?

Without trying to sound like a sanctimonious asshat, in less than a quarter of the time it would have taken you to write that post, you could have instead typed "census nz" in Google, and got al the answers you need...

Well, as there are many here and this is a very active thread why not here?

While you are quite correct, the same applies to many threads here, why not use Google and just delete Geekzone? because we can get human responses that are not one liners, and sometimes expansion on the query.

That's a question I never found the answer to.
