I'd go with the yeast paste having to be with something, Lettice or Cheese, preferably Lettice.
On its own nah not really.

I gather that Sanitarium has waged a campaign against import of small quantities of UK Wheetabix.
Despite it not being cost competitive or making any dent in sales.
So you are not licencing that and starting up in competition.

Apparently they all are an Australian invention?

Weetabix, manufactured by UK company Weetabix Limited, is the British version of the original Weet-Bix. Both cereals were invented by Australian Bennison Osborne in the mid-1920s.

I eat Weet-Bix most days here. We also spend a lot of time in the UK and Europe - where Weetabix is widely available. Also in US and Canada and I have regularly eaten it in all these places. N American Weetabix is made in the US but is indistinguishable from European.

The two products are outwardly similar but are by no means the same. They’re both biscuits/bricks but have different look, taste and texture to each other - and they crush differently. However both are equally nice IMO - with a little fresh fruit and a spoonful of plain yoghurt on top.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

If someone else could make an affordable gluten free version of Weetbix it would be appreciated and they would get a lot of my money. The 375g boxes of weetbix for $6.90 on special works out to be $18.40/kg which seems ridiculous to pay for Weetbix but no option I'm afraid... very fortunate to be in the financial position to be able to asorb this cost.

linked article: “To supply the retailer, the company has decided to reduce allocation into export markets to release the capacity to supply Weet-Bix to The Warehouse,” Sanitarium said today.

Sanitarium may well be selling it cheaper for bulk export markets and like most prefers large predictable single drop orders in preference to smaller orders.

Given the previous post on the low wholesale price of cheese it's surprising The Warehouse hasn't tried very hard on it. Last time I was in there price was not close to competitive and they had virtually no product in the chiller. Maybe that will change with interest generated from this episode.

It isn't the same, it has a different taste. So doubt  it is the same product rebadged.

I didn't say it was the same product rebadged, but it is the same thing.

The Countdown Cereal Wheat Biscuits are made in NZ. The chances that Sanitarium aren't involved are pretty slim.

Edit It seems that the basic biscuit is the same but the Sanitarium has added B vitamins, foliate & iron.

Short article where tax expert says businesses generating charitable income like Sanitarium should be taxed and there's a case for it. Article links a podcast with the expert making the case and says it should be proposed legislation so it can go to select committee public submissions all that and get any edges and concerns sorted out.

I think religions should simply be taxed.  They are businesses, that sell a particular experience. Like other businesses, any genuine charitable work they undertake, could be tax deductible.  That shouldn't include attempting to influence social policies in NZ.

Where a religion owns a genuinely charitable organisation, operated at arms length, it would seem to be reasonable for that to be a registered charity.

Neither should religions be eligible for govt grants, unless to an arm's length subsidiary.

Alice Snedden is great. I used to enjoy her bad news blog.  I must pick it up again.

Thats a fun video, there are some very dark areas of the biggest and richest Churches that were passed by though.

Paying tax does meet many of the aims of the Church in that it is directly contributing to society.

Perhaps we can ease their concerns by ringfencing Church business tax for social housing, social services, hospitals, medical, etc.
In a way make it easy for them to show money going directly to good community purposes.

Problem solved :-)

Most religions to my knowledge do tend to operate their charities as a separate entity. For the Adventists (to stay on this thread topic) the primary target of charitable funds would the Adventist Development Relief Agency, which so far as I know actually does good work. My personal view is that "furtherance of religion" should be removed as a charitable activity that attracts tax-exempt status. That's all that needs to happen. Feeding and clothing homeless? Tax exempt. Disaster relief? Tax exempt. Proselytising at people to worship your god and give you their money? Thanks, society will take a cut of that to fund the programs you aren't running now.

By not paying tax, a Church chooses where that money goes - you could argue they are therefore excusing themselves from the democratic process whereby the majority chooses where money goes.

And both are like 40MPa concrete if allowed to dry out in the bowl before washing.
