Are you 100% sure they are being dumped and not a feral colony that just keeps re-breeding?  Kittens can get pregnant as early as 6 months old (possibly earlier) and in a colony they will just keep pumping more out until they die of essentially exhaustion from being nearly constantly either pregnant or nursing.  So what you may be assuming are dumped kittens, are actually just new members of the colony seeking a food source.

There is a population with very specific fur patterns that is probably breeding. But cats with completely different colouring pop up from time to time. I know about recessive genes but it is not unreasonable to assume at least some of these are new introductions, especially because it is also not unreasonable to assume that the behaviour of stupid people has not suddenly changed for the better. We live at the end of a long rural road to nowhere with cat colonies all along it from idiots who have previously disposed of their inconveniences.

That our new series Toyota Rav 4 had complete electrical meltdown this morning when my wife was driving to a meeting. All the warning lights and error messages like Collision warning system failure, ABS, Traction control system failure, Cruise control system failure and so on. The vehicle lost nearly all power and very little traction. Toyota assist told her that it would be OK to drive to the nearest service centre. Luckily that was only a kilometre away. The car struggled to get up the driveway to the service centre due to virtually no traction. At first they told her there was a charge to get it diagnosed, I wasn't there but I can imagine her reaction to that, she text me to say that they have decided that there is no charge to test.

It sounds to me that either the wiring loom has failed. The Computer has failed or it has a virus. At least it is under warranty and CGA as the vehicle is only 2 years old. I am waiting in my usual calm patient manner to hear what is going to happen.

What should happen is the Toyota dealer will say “ Sorry about that Mike (and Mrs Mike), that shouldn’t happen to a 2 year old Toyota. We will diagnose and fix ASAP.”

Sounds like it went into ‘limp mode’ to protect itself. Could be something as simple as a sensor.

Despite tracking my every move, when I asked google maps to "drive home" last night via android auto, it didn't know where I lived, asked me to enter (via voice) an address as "home", then that failed as google has no idea how my street name is pronounced, trying to pronounce it different ways failed,  its several "best attempts" were close but not found - and that happened despite my home address being already saved as a recent destination.

All I wanted was get an approximate ETA on a trip that was several hours long.

Both Apple Maps and Google Maps are preprogrammed with my home address as HOME.

When I click on HOME (particularly if I am in an unfamiliar part of town and forgot if it's left or right from this spot) I invariably get asked to input the address. When i do that, it then states proudly that I am navigating to HOME.

So frustrating.

My wife rang, they have apologised for the incorrect information about charging for the diagnostics and that will not happen. At this time they are keeping the car and have no ideas  as they cannot get the diagnostic computer to talk to the vehicle. At least they have given her a loan car for the duration.

Wouldn't get these kinds of issues with a horse and cart.

Horses that go into ‘limp mode’ normally get shot.

Edison tried to make an electric horse once. The horse died.

His attempt to electrify an elephant had the same result.

This part though:

The elephant had killed three men in recent years—one a trainer who had tried to feed Topsy a lit cigarette.

Ummmm... traction control doesn't reduce or increase traction. It detects loss of traction and brakes whichever wheel is spinning so that it regains traction. Probably it was just insufficient power in limp mode to get up the driveway. Unless your wife was drifting the RAV4 into the service centre? 🤣

@frankv drift? hahahaha doubt it she is now a Nanna or so she claims. She described it as if the vehicle just could not grip. I have a feeling that the Hybrid system was trying to provide boost to the limp home ICE power plant and the whole thing just didn't have any motive power left. I wasn't thereI was in our office as usual abusing Excel. What ever it is I am so glad she had not reached the urban motorway when it all went south that could have been a dangerous nightmare.

It's the bit about the techs not being able to establish connection with the ecu diagnostics that gets me.

Assuming the techs knew what they were doing and had the right gear (not guaranteed) then add this to the list of many things I hate about cars these days.  Next would probably be something like "the ECU is borked", and Toyota will have stuck it right up under the dashboard behind the ventilation system, have to rip everything out of the cabin in front of the seats to get to it, and once the techs have spent a week pulling it to pieces and putting it back together, you've picked it up and been driving it for a week, a plastic clip or screw that they didn't tighten properly will come loose and rattle, and annoy the carp out of you, but only when you're driving it in "certain conditions" that their techs can never replicate (probably because they really don't want to).

@Fred99 the dealer in question is very good and has a great reputation. They told my wife that the diagnostic computer just could not see the car. Apparently they put it on another vehicle to see that it was OK. I thought for a bit that there was just not enough juice in the vehicle to complete the connection of to fire up the onboard ECU but that is highly unlikely but not impossible. She is still waiting to hear if they have been able to make contact and resuscitate our poor Rav.
