Reading the witty slamming Mike Hosking is receiving from what seems like whole universe.

It would seem no one shares his opinion about , well, pretty much anything.

Sucks to be you Mike !

How do all the NZ taxes stack up against a negative price of the item?

(I know the refining / transport storage etc adds cost.)

But GST on -$ = more -$!

Well it's a hypothetical - but excise and regional fuel tax is levied per litre - but they'd lose on GST - but not including the tax on the tax - errr... levy.

Note that collapse in price was for expiring futures contracts - big whoops if you were holding contracts and had no tank capacity - some would have bought the futures at +50 bbl, had to sell them in a panic at -30/bbl for a loss of $80 /bbl.

Anyway WTI crude futures have soared to 60 cents a barrel.  Up more than $30 from yesterday's lows.  Yuuge rally.  Fracking hell.

Learning how to change my background in MS Teams and then adding a bunch of new ones, so in meetings I am either in the Space Station or sitting at Moe's Tavern or sitting in Wakanda, or overlooking the town of Southpark.

That they arrested a wanted criminal.

He was caught when he violated the corona requirements of the authorities by not staying 1.5m away from his fellow cronies.

Bad luck.

I just did my weekly driving - 5km round trip to the supermarket.
The trip computer fuel gauge tells me I've got 850km range left in the tank.
Looks like I'll need to fill up some time in 2023.

Before that, given the octane of your fuel would drop over time and you'd likely have to pump it out and refill I think.

I feel it's actually pretty outrageous our fuel prices are what they are right now. If we didn't have bigger things to worry about.....

This isnt the US where we have low quality fuel full of ethanol and butane so it lasts a hell of a lot longer than the horror stories you get from there about fuel being useless after a few months.

But still that low usage makes a Nissan leaf with no battery at all left become a viable car if not for that pesky wof and rego thing.

I'm chuckling while browsing TradeMe at all the "essential" items that can be shipped ... vintage desert spoons are essential items apparently :-)

Even the law is somewhat lenient:

'the following are permitted as essential personal movement [...]: a person leaving their residence for the purpose of visiting or staying at another residence [...] if 1 person lives alone in 1, or both, of those residences'

So, popping around to someone else's place to watch a movie? Essential. 😁

(Not that I have done such a thing!)
