freitasm: Skyfall.
Good movie, but not great as I was expecting. The whole personal revenge thing didn't cut for me. I give it 7.5/10 (a bit less than the 8.1/10 average on IMDB).

Ah, thanks. I thought he was the director for some reason.
jamesrt: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (8/10)
An enjoyable "summer blockbuster" style movie, and certainly an entertaining 3 hours or so.
The basic storyline was fairly true to the book (Chapters 1 to 6); but as you'd expect for a three hour film based on that simple book, there was a lot of embellishment. Not all of this, in my opinion, was required - without going into spoiler territory too much, I thought that the development of "The Baddie" was not required for this film. I had heard some comments about the beginning being "slow"; the main thing I found unnecessary was the large amount of exposition/back-story in the "prologue".
Technically, I found it to be a stunning presentation, which I saw at The Embassy, so in 3D HFR with Atmos - the picture clarity and brightness were great; the 3D wasn't "in your face", but just made the whole thing seem much more real, in my opinion. The Embassy's sound system is brilliant - it was great to hear snoring dwarfs all around you during a particular scene, for example.
From the opening bars of the soundtrack in the first few frames, I found the feeling of revisiting an old friend (Middle Earth) very strong; and it was great to see a number of reminders of previous films during this one. I had my doubts when I first heard that they were going to make 3 films; and I was getting very worried over the last few weeks that due to the whole over-exposure that my expectations would be let down; but no, I really enjoyed the film, and am looking forward to the next two.
YMMV, of course!
