Windows again. I think I've commented before on apps dumping their icons on my desktop. Usually they do this by adding them to the Public Desktop folder. Windows doesn't have an official way to stop the public items from showing up on your personal desktop, but a common workaround is to go into the security settings and deny read access by your normal user account. This has the effect of making all the public icons disappear.

Alas, an update in the past couple of weeks has broken this workaround. Windows will now periodically revert the permissions on the Public folder and make all the rubbish reappear.

Online shopping. Buying slightly obscure blurays from amazon es and amazon fr. The Spanish one is off like a shot, but the French one (which is an import from Spain obviously) sits in the suppliers warehouse (in Spain perhaps ?) for 9 flipping days before the slightest hint of movement.

And DHLs awesome effort in finally moving a parcel to Chicago after receiving it in NY on 8th August.

And mostly obsessive compulsive tracking to see the progress (or not) of the above despite covid and choosing the cheapest slowest postage.

Maybe I'm the problem ? No, thats just being silly 😬

People claiming "I've done my research" when challenged on their anti-vax etc stand.
Sorry sunshine, searching out confirmation bias based websites and FB posts makes *you* the sheep, not me.  And it is most definitely not "research".

I've started a rumour that anti-vax campaigns are in fact run by the Russians and/or Chinese aimed at undermining Western democracies and taking over the world.

Please keep spreading this news...

They're doing a fine job themselves, they don't need any assistance.

You might jest, there was some commentary when the anti 5G thing was going strong a while back that the anti 5G movement was being stoked by "information" coming out of places like Russia.

This sort of thing is nothing new, regimes of all persuasions have used topics of "interest" to stir up populations of target countries. They may not be running the campaign but they sure take advantage of the situation.

The council digging up the street and cutting the water off while everyone else is working at home. I was going to make noodles for lunch...

They have ? They are ? May I enquire as to whether you're talking about workplace or at home (seems fine here).

Home. There's a guy with what appears to be a council vehicle working in a hole outside about number 12.

Although I suppose it must be something important!

Thanks. Like I say, seems OK here (100ish meters up the road) but trying not to empty any pipes finding out...

Jolly good.

Wait, you are talking about the water supply not the scary monster under the bed or the troll in the cupboard under the stairs...

The only troll in that cupboard is my NAS, when it decides to randomly blast the fans.

Ah yes, the old "counter the conspiracy theory by upping the ante to something even more unbelievable" trick.

I like it.

Wandering the house aimlessly announcing we have a power cut, while the TV and all the Kids' devices are still happily blaring away.

I realised afterward that it was the oven timer switching the oven off (it's a DeLonghi thing) at the end of the timer instead of dinging. Amazing how much noise the fan oven makes.
