So the saga with my mates at Aramex continues.

Several weeks on, several emails, several phone calls, many promises that my wife's new bike would be delivered urgently and there's still no sign of it.

Last phone call was a real worry - the operator didn't know where it was, then it was in the Penrose facility, then it was in the North Shore facility, then it was in a manager's office, then they would look for it, so I assume it's lost.

That's $850.00 I assume will be held up at Evo Cycles for a while, until I can get my money back for goods I never received.

So frustrating!

Edit: and now their phones don't work.

Edit 2: Their phones were overloaded. I did end up managing to get through. Despite being told by several people in several formats that my package would be delivered with urgency, it's apparently still sitting at the depot (now confirmed as being the North Shore one) because it's "oversized or over weight".

This is a 14kg bike in a box...so maybe 15.5kg all up. Same as the one they delivered from Wellington in 4 days. So they can be delivered...

I'm convinced they've lost it

They rode it home and now they're trying to repack it 😁.

Put it back on the retailer to deliver or refund. You shouldn't be wasting your energy on this nonsense.

Did that today - sent a fairly strong but polite email detailing the amount of runaround I have had from their carrier, and asking for either a bike or a refund.

Fred99:

Next annoyance is that every single premium brand of dishwasher & model has some seriously negative reviews on the interweb, mainly about reliability, but often about horrific customer service, unavailability of spare parts etc.  Not just one random one star review, but multiple reports of similar issues on different sites. I wish I'd never looked.

Was that mostly productreview.com.au? That place isn't so much a review site as a dumping ground for customer complaints, it's useful but you need to take it with quite a grain of salt. More generally, what you're seeing is a sampling of the worst experiences people have had rather than a general cross-section of customer experiences. This is why I keep recommending sources like Consumer, they do large-scale evaluations across the entire country rather than just posting all the complaints.

Friend of mine used to work as a congressional researcher and he said the thing that frustrated him most about the job was that they'd present a report containing, say, 20 person-years of research effort by experts in the field and covering tens or hundreds of thousands of subjects, recommending the approach they found best, and it'd be shot down by some congress committee member with "Cousin Delbert tried that and said it didn't work for him".

I honestly didn't know that Smeg was even a brand. I thought you were making some kind of humorous reference to Red Dwarf.

It's a company in northern Italy where a lot of industry is located, been around for a long time, the name comes from some acronym in which M = metallurgy. So it's Italian engineering, but not the sort of Italian engineering that falls apart or catches fire if you take a corner too quickly.

Seeing the price of something at Repco and being sure it was considerably less when I looked at it a month ago. I was looking to buy a trolley jack once we came out of level four, so bookmarked the one I wanted.

Only I've either got the price wrong initially, or it's gone up. But I've got no way of working out which was which!

I think you can safely assume it has gone up.

A month ago Repco had some decent specials that seemed to last a number of weeks. Not so much now. Maybe it was showing a special price when you bookmarked it?

.

Problem with Consumer (I have a subscription) is that almost none of the models I was looking at in stores were reviewed - the reviews seemed to be for superseded models.

A good point. I'll sit and watch it a little bit longer. Basically the alloy one was $280, now $440.

I half-heard an item on the radio just now saying that Aramex has won some sort of award for 'best courier company' or something similar.

Doesn't say much for the rest of them.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
