Recording an hour and a half program then finding the stupid thing had closed captions turned on.

That seems to be the default for YouTube now, every single time I want to watch something I have to turn CC off first, along with autoplay which has always been enabled.

I always have captions on. Can hear fine, I just like captions. What gets me is there is no way to tell a video at face value has captions or not. And ffs content creators it takes nothing to bake captions into your vids instead of the useless auto ones.

Was looking at getting a Karcher 3.5P shop vac to avoid having to haul dust-making stuff outside every time I want to work with it. This seems to be the cheapest decent power-tool-triggered shop vac around, and it's available at 15% off via the Bunnings/Mitre 10 price match policy. Bunnings offer this at level 3 provided the other price is cheaper, Mitre 10 don't offer it at level 3, so the only way to get it under lockdown is via Bunnings.

The Bunnings price is one dollar less than Mitre 10.

2FA that doesn't work.

Trying to log in to my Samsung account. It sent 6 text messages in rapid succession with codes. Not one of them worked and the Verify button remained greyed out.

Useless.

Companies that use SMS for 2FA.

neb: The fact that cuts in wood have the miraculous ability to transplant themselves a millimeter to the left or right no matter how many times you measure and check beforehand. Argh.

As a followup to this, Red Green may declare duct tape to be the handyman's friend, but as far as I'm concerned it's the flush trim bit.

Shopping cart systems that have "Add new address" options - and then demand you re-enter your name and phone number. What do they have to do with adding a new address?!

Shopping cart systems that tell you your card's expired and offer to add a new one. You then have the old expired card and the new one in there, and there's no indication of the expiry date so you don't know which to delete.

Stepping staff through setting their Exchange account to be the default for everything on iPhones. Conversation goes like this: “Go into settings, mail, accounts — how many accounts do you see listed there?”

The annoy is when they always answer “iCloud and nine more”. - I know they don’t mean they have nine more accounts but it irks me so.

iPhones, my sarcastic comment about them is, Smart phones for dumb people.  I know it's not universally true of all iPhone owners but sure does sum up a lot of iPhone owners in my opinion. "It just works" is exactly what they want/need, perfect match.

I got an reputation of being anti apple at work 7yrs ago or so but it was just because I'd get co workers bouncing with excitement about their new phone and when I asked what model they would say Apple iPhone and when asked why/what features they liked they would just parot "its an apple iphone".

Ok I had one of the early androids HTC so was interested in features hardware etc and wrongly assumed other people did as well.

But no. Its was "its an apple" " I bought an iphone " because its an apple over and over.

For non-Apple people, could you explain the significance of this? Is it some play on Cloud9?

I read it as "there are nine iCloud accounts" - I could be wrong though.

As an iPhone user I would say that sums me up perfectly.

^that. Plus the fact that if someone thinks they have a virus on their phone and they have an iPhone, they don’t. (External calendars sourced from hacked porn websites showing alerts for having an infected phone however …)

I’ll post a screenshot better explaining my previous post later.

My personal daily driver is an M1 Mac mini. It's basically silent, I've only very occasionally heard the fan and only for brief periods.

I just got a new work laptop, an HP Elitebook 830 G7. It seems that the fans are permanently on high speed and it closely resembles a 777. It's incredibly annoying.
