RNZ:

A dog in northern Thailand has rescued a newborn baby after it was buried alive, allegedly by its teenage mother.

The baby boy is said to have been abandoned by his mother, 15, to hide her pregnancy from her parents.

Ping Pong the dog was barking and digging in a field in Ban Nong Kham village. Its owner says he then noticed a baby's leg sticking out of the earth.

There is a photo of a dog, with the caption "File photo. Not Ping pong." So why include it?!

Just in case a reader doesn’t know what a dog looks like?

True. The likes of Stuff very often put a generic pic of a police car, fire truck or ambulance in articles involving accidents. Is this for people who don't know what one looks like?

Edit:

Maybe in one of those lifestyle articles where someone writes in saying their spouse is no longer interested in sex, they should put a generic picture of two people doing it? LOL

Headline in Auckland Mag:  New fish species discovered that can detect wavelengths.

-- no wonder some people distrust science

So they are saying that fish can see different colours. Which is hardly a startling discovery as humans and lots of other animals can also see in colour.

And 9 times out of 10, they'll use a "file photo" of a St John ambulance when the article refers to Wellington Free Ambulance.

So to them, it's just plain violet?

Stuff has an article saying some third rate celebrity has gotten a large tattoo. Jesus wept.

Third rate is probably giving too much credence. I can think of a few others in that category too. A footballers daughter and her mother also come to mind. Only time you hear about these sorts of people is when it's a "look at me moment". They very rarely get into the news for doing anything worthwhile for someone else.

A bit of grammar would not have gone astray here.

Stuff reporter at the airport said the plane landed and the nose wheel appeared to collapse shortly after 11am.

So, the plane landed with I must assume, wheel problems. And just after 11am, the wheel collapsed. :-)

Today's lack of proofreading, courtesy of the Bay of Plenty Times:

"When you are talking millions of are putting that in the right mode in the right time," she said.

Later in the same article:

This trial is expected to cost $80 dollars, you want to make sure you million to start and $10m a year to keep running.

It looks like someone accidentally grabbed the "dollars, you want to make sure you" out of the first sentence and dropped it into the second.

If it was an accurate quotation, I sincerely hope that the person being quoted is not allowed anywhere near budgets of that size...wooden blocks in the corner would seem more appropriate, or perhaps crayons...
