This time of year is a banger for UK panel show Christmas and New Year specials.  Great to watch some of these with the family.  On Christmas we watched the 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown special, and then Would I Lie to You special.  A few days later was The Big Fat Quiz of the Year.

Following all that I saw the latest season of Only Connect has just finished so we started watched that - if you haven't seen it, it's the most complicated quiz show I've ever seen.  It's like a cryptic crossword in video form.  So cool to see the teams solve some of the puzzles, I sit there with a WTF look on my face most of the time.  Now we're also watching the latest season of University Challenge :)

A show called "Mike Tyson mysteries" is playing on TV2 at 2:35.

It's PG-13, with a lot of cursing bleeped out, and definitely not politically correct.

It's short 15 minute cartoons, and kind of funny. May want to add 5 minutes before and after as the show doesn't always start on time.

Luther is pretty good, at least the first couple of seasons were, but The Fall is possibly the best TV series I've ever seen. Gillian Anderson is just outstanding and Jamie Dornan makes one of the most sinister serial killers you are ever likely to come across. Riveting.

Avicii: true stories on Netflix 9/10

Fly on the wall documentary following the rise of dance music DJ.

He committed suicide 4 months after the documentary ends and it's an uncomfortable watch as you see the stress pressure of success and conflict between the system wanting him to continue vrs him not enjoying touring.

The suicide isn't a spoiler as the film is dedicated to him at the start.

For those who like his music, its interesting to see some of his hits being created with scenes from recording sessions.

Travelers Season 3, Episode 9 (David)

This episode is good...and tough to watch if you are invested in the team...but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Overall, this season has been a little more adult-oriented than previous seasons - perhaps a direction they will continue of there's a season 4?

How much am I enjoying this season? A lot - in fact I am just beginning the last episode and will be disappointed to have to wait for the next season (presumably a year or so).

8.5/10

Murder Mountain on Netflix.  A documentary series about the marijuana trade in Humboldt County, California. We've seen the first 2 episodes and it's really good. Humboldt County is one of the worlds most renowned growing areas and you see it from the perspective of legal, medical growers,  hippies from the 60's, to more modern organized crime type figures who are in it only for the money, along with law enforcement interviews etc.. Underpinning it is a story of a missing young man who was working on an illegal grow. Humboldt county has an incredible number of missing persons, which is partly how the name Murder Mountain came about. 9/10

biggal:

just watched das boot "the tv series"

it was good just as good as the movie even better

its on tvnz and sbs in aussie

it does have subtitles as its mostly in German but thats ok

they are going to make a season 2

Also just finished watch the first 8 episodes series 1 on TVNZ OnDemand - have given it a 7/10 rating in IMDb. It was great but not exceptional.

Great period sets and costumes (they even have the seamed stockings and garter belts with the seams straight 😳). Fabulous interior and exterior U Boot sets that look technically correct. Well written with a great main plot and sub-plots with, some, unexpected twists and turns.

It is set immediately after the 1981 movie time frame and is set around the German U-boat French port of La Rochelle and focuses not just on the German perspective, but on the experiences of the French Resistance and Allied forces on land and at sea.

Can't wait for season 2 - hopefully just as good.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Not a series, but a Rick and Morty show called "Bushworld Adventures | Adult Swim"

Some have said it's the most accurate depiction of Australia of any animation.

Warning: very rough language, adult situations.

Busy educating the resident young teenagers to the wonders of Fringe although they have been laughing at the size of some of the phones (as in in big). Only up to episode five of the first series so far but it has aged pretty well. Chose it instead of the X-Files which does now seem very slow.

Strange twist. You can watch it in NZ but not the US

https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/news/why-isnt-titans-on-netflix-in-the-united-states/

"With the high-profile release of Titans on Netflix recently many fans in the United States have wondered why the DC show is unavailable to stream. Considering the amount of other DC content on Netflix US, it’s easy to understand why this has confused subscribers. Here’s a look at why Season 1 of Titans isn’t on Netflix US.

Titans is the superhero-drama show based on the characters of DC’s Teen Titans. The show, prior to its release on Netflix, aired on DC Universe, Detective Comics very own streaming service. Titans was made with the intention of airing in America solely on the DC streaming platform.

As for the rest of the world, Netflix acquired the license to stream the show in the remaining regions worldwide. This has obviously displeased many Netflix US subscribers who already use the platform to watch other DC titles."
