People who own large vans with very dark window tinting and park on the road outside your house for 2 months.

We literally cannot see oncoming traffic until after reversing out onto the road.   The dark window tinting is really dangerous.

Since iOS 15, the voice search function for nav directions in Google Maps on CarPlay no longer works. The mic icon has disappeared. Very annoying. No comment from Apple and if you were cynical you might say it was done deliberately to slightly cripple Google Maps to the benefit of their inferior Apple Maps - where voice search still works.

Walking in to a store or reception area and having the staff or manager look up and say “You right?” Having worked in retail since 1975 I don’t think I have ever said that and if I have I deserve a thrashing.

Websites that try to be 'trendy' and in the process fail utterly at usability. This particular one has "scan this QR code for more information". You want me to go and get my phone so I can scan a code that'll take me to a URL? Why on earth don't you just use a hyperlink that I can click on?!

Imagine if you were actually reading the site on a phone in the first place. Presumably you'd need a mirror...

If you reply with "How did you know my name was Wright? You're one of them, aren't you? They're watching me, they're always watching me, they park in dark vans outside my house and watch me. I know they've bugged my phone, I shook it and the speaker turned on! They've got satellites you know, they can read your mind! Can I sign you up to our Facebook group?", and then you'll find they they politely socially distance by the length and breadth of the store, if not the store next to it.

Hate that too. On occasions I’ve replied “No I’m not - and that’s no way to greet a customer” or words to that effect.

Another annoyance are those sites that are overly informal and chatty and use words like ‘chur’ etc - I actually don’t know what that means. Trying to appeal to a certain part of their demographic - and alienating another part. Sharesies and 2d are two that come to mind.

IMO slightly more friendly formality engenders respect and goes a long way.

Good morning, Sir. May I be of assistance?

Not that hard.

An old story that came back to me while discussing the dog thread recently.

We have two female dogs. Tilly just got here about five months ago but Rosie's been here for almost ten years now.

I was walking her one day and she squatted to pee, as female dogs do. She finished the business and we started walking again.

An idiot driving past shouted, "Collect the poo, you dumbass".

Damn idiot.

My pet peeve for that is ones that insist I click on "Got it" instead of "OK". No, I haven't got it. I don't even care what "it" is, I just want to get rid of this stupid popup. You could just as easily label it "Bugger me with a fishfork" and I'd still have to click it to get past it.

The only time when it's appropriate to use that particular phrase is when you're talking to Japanese gangsters and you need to convince them that the black man with you is your kohai and you'd prefer it if they didn't kill him.

We’re all familiar with the inconsistencies between android versions and different models. Google for how to do something on Android and the steps are likely to not match unless you get lucky and hit an instructional that lists what to do for all versions.

Similarly for Windows - google how to switch a connection from public to private and you’ll likely find it doesn’t match (just use powershell)

Enter Apple. IOS is generally consistent but less so of late. Today I find the reset function is changed. At least it’s reasonably intuitive.

Todays annoy: Google tells me that this here iPad Pro model A1652 is a 12.9 inch iPad. So, I brought an iPad Pro 12.9 inch keyboard/case. If you Google that, you’ll not see the problem - I certainly didn’t. Challenge: see if you can find what I did wrong with that purchase.

So much for Apple stuff being foolproof.

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

That Google Meet asks me "If I am talking, because my microphone is off" - when my microphone is off. H'mm 🤔

They're always listening...

I live 35 minutes from my nearest main centre. I recently had to get a small window replaced. What annoys me is they charged a full travel charge when the guy lives nearby (a block or so away), it was the end of the day, in his own car, the job took 30 minutes and they charged for 2 hours. OK I understand lots of companies charge when they leave the base, but at .5 hour for travel, there is a nice padding being added!
