I want to help spread the word. Just a normal average person who cares so if you don't mind please take the time to sign.

Many Thanks

So if you don't sign then you don't take sexual violence seriously!

I'm happy to let the Police handle this as they are under a lot of pressure and don't think these type of things help at all.

If they totally get away with it then I may be interested until then, sorry

Well this should be interesting....

Hopefully this will encourage anyone who has been raped to make a formal complaint.

If more than just the one girl had made a formal complaint the outcome could have been quite different.

I would rather it be handled the way it is now than any further drastic action take place. There's already inquires into police actions underway.

If the cops don't have the evidence or willing witnesses to press charges then fair enough, any action would be a huge waste of tax payer money for no convictions.

That is about the saddest thing I have ever heard. And I've heard a lot of sad things this week.

How many complaints do the police need to pull someone over or speeding or bust a dope grower? But if a bunch of thugs rape multiple underage girls, boast about it on Facebook and only one 13 year old actually has the guts to make a formal complaint, the police are happy to leave the offenders at it for two years to rape who knows how many other girls and humiliate them all over the internet to add insult to injury.

If anything the news this week will have discouraged others from making complaints - now they know how they will be treated by the police - humiliated all over again then ignored.

You have let emotion take over.

I totally agree these guys need to be punished for what they have done.

Remember that in order to prosecute the police need evidence they can produce in court.

Unfortunately where there is just one complainant it is a case of "he said... she said" and unless there is some physical evidence then it really isn't possible to prove beyond reasonable doubt.

If they had a number of girls making formal complaints then they may well have been able to prove the case.  Hopefully now this is out in the open they will get the complaints and evidence they need to take a successful prosecution against these dorks.

I agree Graeme it is about people getting emotional and getting the cart in front of the horse.

there isn't any injustice been done yet investigation are still underway so why do we need a petition unless its to put undue pressure on Police and have trial by media, our justice system isn't the greatest but this type of thing doesn't help it either.

Get your emotions in check people and have a loomk at the reality of the situation even if it is with the best intentions its flawed

There is so much noise being generated by a whole lot of people whose only knowledge of the case are what they've heard in the media. Perhaps mistakes have been made, perhaps communication could have been clearer, perhaps a lot of other things - until the IPCA report comes back I'm going to hold back from personal judgement over this case. After all, these guys are innocent until proven guilty.

I can have that stance and still abhor violence and sexual violence, believe it does not have a place in New Zealand, and hope that all people who commit such crimes are brought to justice.

"...especially as they cannot turn to the police for support..."

This last sentence stops me from signing it... Getting politicians meddling into Police business is dangerous. Let IPCA do their jobs. I will reserve my judgement until then!

Online lynch mob justice that advocates turning the prime minister into a crown prosecutor is hardly going to help the situation.

"That’s what happened to a 13 year old young woman who was raped two years ago."

Aren't statements like this potentially defaming? I thought there was a reason the media always used words like 'alleged' and 'accused'.

I don't believe so, because at the age of 13, regardless of the circumstance, it is still statutory rape.

That's ofcourse if it is proven that intercourse took place, consensual or otherwise. Still 'alleged' or 'accused' until the facts have been verified.

Wrong. One girl made a formal complaint and the outcome should have been different.

If Police didn't act on that complain that's wrong. I want police to be strong on these cases instead of going around getting people driving at 105km/h.

I believe that regardless of how many complaints, evidence is required and the existing complaint went nowhere because of lack of evidence.

Of course evidence is required. I am not disputing that.

What I am doubtful is that evidence was actually sought.
