Ah, and they even touch on why it's a very bad thing if the NZ dollar gets smashed down to those all time lows that the Reserve Bank (and exporters associations) want to get it to - we import technology!  Shock, horror!  And we export things that hold value regardless?!?  No wai!

"A few years ago you would pay $3000 for a reasonable-size old style CRT TV alone," he said.

i would say a lot more than a "few years ago" :P

Glad it works for some things at least!

I wanted to buy a new Spyderco knife last week - until I found out that they cost more than double here in NZ compared to the USA!!

I pointed out to one dealer that the model he wanted NZ$320 for was available in the USA for US$149....he offered me 10% discount.

And will be wondering why people don't shop in NZ I have no doubt.

My last TV purchase (a Samsung 40" plasma in 2007) cost us about $5,000 so I am glad that the next one (not that I can say there is anything wrong with the current one, mind) will be a lot less. I am hoping it lasts another 3 years, as once every 10 years seems like a reasonable replacement cycle for TV's.

There really isn't a lot of news, is there... there was also a story about David Cunliffe confusing one kind of war medal for another. Sigh.

I can't stand the song by her about how awful it is getting old - she's what, 15?! I think once she gets out of her goth phase of creating dark depressing music she could be ok.

Maybe. She just sounds like All The Others to me! Music these days is so driven by what sells; when I were a lad back in the olden days, musicians wrote stuff about what they wanted to say, and if it sold then all well and good!

I've got Exile On Main Street by the Stones playing at the moment and really "they don't make them like that anymore"!

I have been looking at TV's as we are considering moving to an Apartment and our current TV (65") is probably going to be too big. I was quite surprised have much they have come down in price.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

The first consideration who you look for an apartment is to find one that can accommodate you and the TV  wink

You have no idea how close I was to responding to her tweet by saying 'Let's go down to the tennis court and talk it up like, yeah.'

...But I kind of like working here, so my silence ensures my continued job security. I'm sure that's why they mostly try to keep me away from Twitter nowadays. :P

'Let's go down to the tennis court and talk it up like, yeah.'

I'm going to show my age and/or cultural difference by saying that I haven't the faintest idea what that sentence actually means...! The first part, yes - but after I get to the tennis court, what exactly is happening next?

I honestly don't pretend to know.

ETA: Flume did a Thing with the song which I prefer to the original.
