We have been musing at work that if this guy had been treated for suicidal tendencies and had blurred vision how his employer wouldn't know this?

I believed (and believe it should be if it isn't) that a pilots medical notes are copied to their employer, and it defies belief that anyone treated for suicidal tendencies would ever ever ever been allowed to pilot a passenger vehicle of that size.

For the same reason I believe that a criminal conviction should prevent you from ever owning a gun of any type.

This should have been preventable to some degree, or mitigated somewhat.

criminal conviction for DIC should stop someone from owning a gun? FYI I have never been charged and don't own a gun

Well I support a zero alcohol whilst driving policy so it wouldn't bother me in the slightest if this was the stance taken by law (To prevent someone who has made such a gross error of judgement and endangered the public) from having a gun.

Most Airlines have their own doctors, which handle the medicals.

This doesn't appear to prevent a pilot from seeking outside advice on their medical issues.

I understand you can't prevent someone from breaking up with thier significant other and feeling suicidal and going to work as a pilot and doing this, but there were warning signs that could have prevented this attack in my opinion.

My argument though it has upset many people over the years (drinkers), is that if you can afford to drink, you can afford a taxi.
