I bought a device from Aliexpress that failed. I wrote to complain about it and received a reply, complete with a row of smileys expressing regret. I then decided to try fixing it myself, which seemed the simplest solution. The problem turned out to be more fixable than I had first expected and I succeeded in repairing it. I sent another message to the seller explaining this. In reply, I received a row of smileys blowing kisses at me! I don't think that would ever happen with Trade Me. Maybe they could learn something from the Chinese.

Trademe and Aliexpress are very different in the way they work, If something failed you purchased on Trademe you would not email Trademe but the Seller about it

I think I would prefer a seller to offer to fix or replace the item... and if they sent me a row of smiley faces instead I wouldn't be too happy!

They did ask for a video of the problem and said they would refer it to their technical people. It was after I said I had fixed it that I got the kisses. I just thought it was a nice touch, if a bit unusual.

Ah, well that sounds a bit better. It sounded from your original post like they just said they regretted it with a row of smiley faces. ;-)

Sorry, I should have been clearer. The first response, which asked for a video of the problem, came with a row of smileys indicating regret. The second response was just a row of blowing kisses.

TradeMe: You pay the seller directly and TradeMe charges a fee for the service directly to you.

Aliepress: Alibaba hold the money until the product is received and confirmed OK/correct, then pass the money on to the seller.

One pushes the seller to offer a good product and service so they get paid, the other only cares about getting the fee.

AliExpress are far more involved than TradeMe in after sales support.  If you buy a fair bit through there (so I've heard, lol) you get to the point where they will step in after a set timeframe and resolve issues with sellers.  I have also found most sellers are eager to take care of their customer on AliExpress lest they recieve bad ratings.  I suspect, as well as not wanting to lose face, AliX are very harsh on sellers with bad ratings.

I do feel as if TradeMe could take a leaf from their book, especially given the fees they charge.  The customer experience is really everything, I am sure a lot of people are put off TradeMe after having a bad experience with a trader.

It happens to me an aweful lot when trying to read on my phone. (android and chrome). Changing aspect doesn't help, and usually about 15 characters are cut off. Makes it completely impossible to read threads at times. Appears quite randomly.

Yeah I know about the Android Chrome thing, that was discussed heavily in another dedicated thread too.
