Finally!

JB HiFi has a new website here in NZ (it looks like the AU one now):

Search seems to work a lot better, and it scales for Mobile/Tablet use too (no more seperate mobile site - yay).

Unfortunately still the nz pricing though, OLEDS...

LG 55 C7 = $6448 in JBHIFI NZ, $3740 JBHIFI australia (in nzd).

LG 65 C7 = $7444 in NZ, $6308 in Aus (in nzd).

The pricing looks wonky with huge variations in absolute and relative costs between and within each country. eg, why is the 65 inch model 18% more here, but the 55 model is 72% more here!

Does LG think we are stupid? Or there is no internet in NZ?

It could be like DSE, some product that didn't sell well for them stayed at the introductory high price even after other outlets had dropped their price. Are they just selling more 65s so price is more current?

A much better website. Now they have to clean up their stores especially to get rid of the horrible smell that permeates some of them, especially Willis St Wgtn store.

I'd be asking the importer (in this case LG NZ).

I'm sure if the retailers could sell it cheaper, they would.

At least it's still open. The Westgate store, my closest, is being closed down (6 Aug last day). Feel sad for the staff, some of whom haven't been redeployed. Can't say I didn't do my bit to support it. A quick precis around the house shows 2 TVs, 3 Blu-ray players, 3 AV Receivers, 2 computers, 3 phones, heaps of PS games, CDs and Blu-ray (yes I still buy physical media).
The combo of this closure and the announcement of JB's move out of whiteware makes me wonder if they are in retreat here. There are obviously local conditions that affect an individual business cases, but the area has building projects that will increase the local population by 25000 over the next few years.
New website doesn't make up for not having a 'local'.

The Westgate store could be to pre-empt a move across the road to the new shopping precinct / into the actual mall?

It would make sense... otherwise they're giving Harvey Norman and Noel Leeming a pretty easy run of it in those parts.

Getting out of whitegoods, well yeah, that much was obvious. The young kids working in-store may have never used a washing machine in their life... selling them would be tough.

I thought you meant westfield queensgate initially. Maybe they are just moving to a standalone shop, so they don't have to also pay a percentage to the mall?

No. Westgate in West Auckland. And they are definitely closing. Stand alone shop in a shopping centre that has lost a bunch of marquee retailers to the new mall across the road. JBs are not moving there, a mistake in my opinion, but then I don't have to stump up for the move, or lack of profitability.

A bit surprising. But maybe they are projecting a recession coming? The home electronics market is also supposedly a very competitive market.

Their CEO (Australian) said somewhere I read that the Westgate store was not profitable, and the lease was up for renewal. Looking for other opportunities apparently.

Whiteware, doesn't surprise me really. They really struggled to get F&P over the line, and F&P would not come to the party (wonder why? bigger retailers in NZ putting pressure on them maybe?) It takes a lot of room both in store and storage and that room has to pay its way.

No, I think the EDA disappeared about 10 years ago. Maybe more. It was certainly around last time I worked in a Whiteware store (a Retravision) back in 2002. They obviously, though, still pick and choose who can sell their stuff (They must be a lot less fussy with Haier - JB has/had that).
