New Zealand Post cuts its FastPost service 

 

Fair enough too. I can't remember the last time I bothered using this service, on the very odd occasion I have to send a letter any longer.

They were hardly meeting the next day targets anyway. That or they only considered "major" cities to be parts of Auckland and Wellington.

When you're only delivering mail 3x per week there must have been massive posts in sending posties out serving streets on the other days to deliver a single letter to an address.

Most of my incoming letters/mail from utilities, banks etc is all arriving via DX Mail these days. To me it seems NZ Post is being hit the hardest from competition, so rather than trying to be competitive they either increase prices or axe services.

 

Since NZ Post is owned by kiwis it is probably time a full investigation was done into the running of this Company.

I only used fastpost for birthdays cards which I forgot about until the day before, once or twice a year.

 

NZPost is pricing itself out of the market. It's about the same price to send packages from Amazon.com as it is to send across the country, and sometimes within the country is more expensive.

I agree.  Throw in the in-store 'service' (slow and obstructive) and you have to wonder if they are trying to go broke.

All our important mail comes from DX these days.  We stopped using NZPost now and I do most by email these days to family overseas. Would have kept using NZPost as nothing like having actual mail as more personal. Had to stop when NZPost removed all the post boxes from the streets. If you want to post something you now have to drive to nearest Post Office.

Well, maybe faster - until they decide they need the supervisor (again) to authorize whatever it is needs authorizing (again).

The problem is they failed to innovate with new products, and pushed up the price of mailing by so much that it generally isn't worth using. i think they need a total management and board clean out, and total rebrand.

Was thinking of returning a DVD to Amazon, looked on the NZPost website for a price (to the UK). If I got the right info it was $14.99, more than twice the price from the UK and more than the cost of the DVD.

I was thinking exactly the same thing as I paid US$7 for shipping an item the other day. I was thinking of getting another for a friend but it made no sense when it's more effort to then then ship it to them and pay exactly the same price.

It shouldn't be cheaper to book a courier on TradeMe to drive to my house and pick up a parcel than going to a post office to get it weighed and posted, but it is.

 

NZ Post high charges are probably also damaging the economy in other ways - the cost of shipping to Australia restricting exporting retailers, or buying things of AliExpress rather than a similarly priced (minus postage) item from TradeMe.
