How odd is it that there is no Online Shopping forum?

Anyhow, I've just made my first purchase from Amazon US. Nothing very big or expensive, just a taster.

I chose the cheapest shipping option which gave an ETA of Sep 12-13.

Shipping direct to NZ, not via a forwarder.

I also just got a notification that the item has shipped.

In your experience is that ETA an overstatement or on the money?

In my recent experience it's been an overstatement, with items arriving quite a few days earlier.

Mostly stuff seems to arrive after 8 or 9 days for me. Also cheapest shipping.

Same as above for me - takes about a week less, or half their estimate, to arrive and shipping was about half of what I would have paid for YouShop. As discussed in another thread, Amazon international shipping seems to have recently had a large drop in price.

My most recent order went missing, and the replacement took a few days longer than the estimate, and arrived damaged. Just a single Blu-ray so not an oversize package or anything.

With that said, every other order has been fine; I've probably made 50+ over the years.

I thought for a second you'd ordered a taser!

Things tend to come earlier than they say. I noticed that an order I made on the 15th took six days to ship (something had to come from a supplier), then once it shipped it took a couple more days to actually reach the carrier. It's forecast for 7th September, but I expect it will actually artive a little earlier.

My experience is it can take longer for companies to ship Auckland to Christchurch than for Amazon to ship USA to Christchurch.  Seriously !

Only every had good experiences on shipping items from them. Generally arrived in a 6 to 10 day period on average.

Thanks everyone. Heartened to hear that things are usually quicker than they say.

I'll post back when it arrives.

Any news on when Amazon Australia will start up?

My package arrived today. It was ordered 15th August, with a delivery forecast around 11th September, so it took 15 days. I'm pretty happy with that for about US$12, ten years ago it would've cost $50.

I think this is a little slower than usual. One of the items that was meant to be in stock had to be sent from the supplier to Amazon, so it took a few days to get to Amazon. Here's the timeline

15th - ordered

23rd - received by iParcel

24th - left the USA

27th - arrived in NZ

28th - customs clearance

29th - arrived in the country - I suspect it means it arrived in the local postal service

30th - sent to NZPost in Auckland

31st - arrived in Wellington

I had some t-shirts delivered last week - took 7 days from placing order to them being here - cheapest shipping option used (not through a reshipper).

edit: not Amazon, but I had a couple of AliExpress orders take 8 days last week as well - quickest I've ever had from them too.

Yeah AliExpress can be a bit variable - they seem to sit on the order for quite some time before it shows as physically shipped, so usually stuff from there takes a few weeks. But they say that up front on they delivery estimate so no surprises. Hard to complain when it's typically free shipping.

I'm constantly amazed that there's any profit in making, packaging and shipping an electronic widget to NZ for $20.

Got some solid state automotive relays shipped in 8-days recently (to Nelson).

Best so far was an outboard fuel pump in <7 days from the US (don't ask how much it costcry).

Well @MikeAqua, I had to pay about $600 for an oil control module (just a little black box) for my EFi Merc ... and it didn't even fix the bluddy problem! Still got to resolve that before summer. Currently not sure if the oil is working so running it on pre-mix with the alarm wire cut. I do have to be careful it isn't overheating as it also means the temperature alarm is disabled.
