Time to get Geekzone blocked in the PRC... Many of you were born after the Tiananmen Square events in 1989. Others, like myself, will remember seeing this on TV back then.

You only need one person to make a stand - Tank Man is that symbol.

And yes, I am not posting this in Politics as it is something that transcends that and is something that shows everyone's rights.

Possibly because we're about to hit the 30 year anniversary of TankMan?

If the intention is solely just to get Geekzone blocked from China. Post some Falun Gong content.

No, that's not the intention. Mentioning the Tiananmen Square events is a way of getting blocked in the PRC.

The intention is to refresh people's memories of events that happened 30 years ago this week.

I have heard there is quite a good miniseries on this topic that has just come out, where they go searching for tankman. Think it is called Chimerica

Oh I heard about this, it was the totally peaceful and uneventful dispersal of a small group of violent and antisocial students eh?

Why do I need my memory refreshed about something that happened somewhere else a long time ago?

I hadn't forgotten it, but I'm unsure what difference refreshing my memory would make. I saw it happen on the news.

Don't read the thread then, plenty more to look at.

I had to read it in order to find out what it was about.

I vaguely remember this on the news, I was in Form 3. What happened to that guy?

I remember more clearly The Simpsons take on it:

Because we humans place far too much emphasis on events that happen recently and those that happen close to home. We're quick to forget about those events from the past, especially if they didn't happen close to home, even if those events had a much more profound impact on our lives than we could ever imagine.

We need a little reminding every now and then.
