Somehow I assumed that the wee devices I saw some years back on TradeMe would always be available. Not so.

A bit of research suggests they were Telsoft LPT310NZ beasties, but any compatible inline device that suits a New Zealand dial would be fine.

Any ideas, hive mind?

Answering myself for the record:

The gadget is a Dialgizmo, it's made in Oz, and it has a setting for NZ dials.

They accept Paypal, which worked for me, and show logos suggesting they accept credit cards but I couldn't find how to use that feature.

Did you receive this and did it work? I need to order one too.

I ordered one the day I posted my reply, and I'll report back here when it arrives.

I certainly expect it to work; heard of them ages ago and they are still around.

Also , if you have a VOIP/SIP  setup  a grand stream HT801 ATA can run NZ pulse diallers...

I have 'landline' service through fibre, but I don't know what system it uses. What is this magic you speak of? Does my ONT support pulse dialling?

Your Router is being the ATA (analog telephone adapter) - its expecting DTMF tones, hence why you need the dial Gizmo or similar,

You can get a separate VOIP "landline" from a provider like 2talk, but its a totally digital service, you need a separate ATA to run a regular phone off it, it takes phone in one end and has an ethernet plug on the other end to connect to 2Talk via your home network..

The Dialgizmo works well, but is not quite as seamless as the HT801 solution.

Another thing for you to consider is whether you’ll need another adapter to get the bells ringing on the phone. If you’re plugging it into an older phone jack with a ringing capacitor built in, then it should work. Otherwise, you’ll want to get a “master socket adapter” that has the capacitor built in.

Are you sure the HT801 supports the NZ reverse dial?

if it's a NZPO 706/746 phone I have fitted a few of these

page 4 of the manual explains how to set the NZ reverse dial

That is pretty cool I might have to try it out, the advantage of the rotatone is it works on any line

The other gotcha I these old phones draw a lot of REN (2-3) which can cause problems with some ATAs when the phone rings
