Does anyone else find this annoying that the videos play automatically. You do get the option to stop them, but I would rather they just played when you chose.

Yep... Specially if you are in an office situation and don't want loud noises going out without you knowing.

Seems to be a Fairfax thing as their other sites do it too. And yes, it's bloody annoying!

Yes quite annoying. It would make me more interested in watching if they didn't play automatically.

I concur, simply put its a PITA when opening several tabs for reading .. next thing im being pelted by the noise of 3 or 4 videos starting at the same time.

Websites with sound make me angry!

I have "Stop Autoplay for Youtube" Chrome extension, this is cool as I can open lots of tabs of videos, and come back to them when they have all loaded. But it doesn't stop the Stuff player, obviously.

Cheers,
Joseph.

Yes it is amazingly annoying. It should be user initiated & not a default. They could even have preferences where people choose to have it on for the site. However the default should be not to play!

Autoplay (and autobuffer) on videos annoys me too, especially when they're video ads and I'm using a tethered phone!

Time to band togeather and show Stuff how you feel.
Their 'contact us' link is http://www.stuff.co.nz/about-stuff/general-feedback/
I've sent my feelings via the 'Make a complaint' option. If ya do send them a comment, it would pay to be polite, rudeness just gets peoples hackles up ;)

The sydney morning herald has an option to click dont play when you open a page it counts down from about 5 then starts to play.

but yes websites that make noise and play stuff automagic drive me nuts. I tend to close them and move on.

I agree with this also. This feature makes browsing Stuff terrible. I believe autoplay videos (or at least audio) used to be a bad coding practice didn't it?

What makes it worse is that sometimes they don't specify that the link has a video, so you open a few tabs and all of a sudden get annoying noise and you have to find the right tab!

SERIOUS PITA
