My mother's grandmother's maiden name was Kelly and we were reputed to be related to Ned Kelly.

My father's mother's maiden name was Sutherland and she was the sister of a guy called Ben Sutherland who started the chain of discount grocery stores called Self Help in the 1930's. The chain went nationwide and was bought out by one of the emerging new-fangled supermarket operations - I think in the late 1960's. You have to be a bit old to remember Self Help.

My cousin is well known in Japan, and in photography circles, only met him for the first time last year when he came out for his first trip to NZ. Jealous of his camera gear... Tongue out

And no, the family is not related to Dan Quayle Wink

My wife is the great great great grand-daughter of Thomas Driver AKA Professor Kudarz, one of 19th century New Zealand's best known prestidigitators, debunker of fake spritualists and mediums, close friend of Harry Houdini, and only one of three magicians (alongside Harry Houdini) in the world whose grave is administered by the American Society of Magicians. The grave is in the Karori Cemetery in Wellington, and is noteable for the tradition of marking a magician's grave by brekaing a wand over the plot, and placing it on the headstone...

How far back ? I have a Count somewhere down the lineage ... A German ambassador to Russia, and was assassinated, and the assassination signaled the beginning of the revolt of the Left Socialist-Revolutionaries in Moscow in 1918, and the deposing of the Russian Royal family

So if your Count had behaved himself and not got himself assassinated, Russia would still have a royal family, there would have been no USSR, progroms, purges, Stalin, gulags, cold war etc etc. Man you have a lot to answer for. What a burden for your family to bear. :)

And the Russians might have had the first man on the moon.
