Hi there,

I just bought my first home and before I move in I'm considered to change a new carpet.The house is 90m2 .I would like to get a recommended place or company selling at reasonable price...eg... special discount promotion...ect..

Also if someone here just recently changed the carpet for their home ...I would like to ask how much did it cost so I can know if I can afford it.Thanks

I am building a new home and am in the process of organising the carpet right now. The quotes I have had so far are around $140/lm for solution dyed nylon carpet, 34oz I think it was.

For about $25-30/lm I will also get 11mm underlay (thicker than normal), install labour and trims.

Those prices are per lineal metre, not per square metre. Typically 1lm is equivalent to about 3.6m2 as the carpet rolls are 3.6m wide.

$165-$170 per lineal metre for everything. But that is good quality carpet. You can probably get some a lot cheaper.

Don't cut costs too much with carpet - cheap carpet does not last. The first house we bought had new carpet just put down by the seller (so new it was still pilling). Within 2 years there were signs of wear in the high traffic areas - after only 2 years!!!

Our current house we replaced the carpet in it when we bought, it with a good quality carpet. After 5 years you cannot see any signs of wear - even in the highest use areas. A very good investment.

Carpet layers always recommend ripping up the underlay - but I'm sure the underlay that was put down when we replaced the carpet was inferior to what they ripped up. So retaining the current underlay may save some money, but would be interested to hear what others think on this.

And shop around because not all deals are equal - some places will give you a great quality carpet for not much more than the cheaper stuff.

Underlay wears, and is often what makes carpet look flat and sunken in the traffic areas, so I would replace it. The stuff here was about 10 years old and disintergrating.

You can get carpet for as little as $50 or per lineal metre (3.6 m2), but it will not be great carpet.
We did our house (about same size as yours - a 3 bed initial home) before we moved in - carpeted 3 beds, hallway and lounge/dining and vinyl wood-look planking in kitchen, entrance, bathroom and toilet for about $3.5k all done - included floor prep, underlay, smoothedge, laying and bars. I was pretty happy with that and it looks great.
Definitely get the 11mm underlay too.

If you don't need carpet then don't use it your health will love you for it. I believe you are better off with polished floors, underfloor insulation and it need be scatter rugs.

Carpets are expensive dirt and bug traps.

The thick underlay is worth it, for padding and insulation, according to a friend who had it done recently. Wool carpet is what companies promote, but a friend got nylon carpet and likes it just fine.

Only if you like having your bits frozen off during winter!

Carpet is far better than polished floors, polished floors are cold, noisy and can be drafty as well if not done properly.
