Hi, I'm trying to get VDSL connected to increase upload speeds (download isn't really important). 

A while ago Chorus came to investigate extremely slow ADSL speeds and replaced our old ADSL splitter with a VDSL splitter.  
We decided to upgrade to VDSL and ordered it with Telecom who say our address is within VDSL provision zone.
A few days later Telecom called to say our "?" was an 11 and they won't connect VDSL if the "?" is over a 10. So, 
We have a VDSL splitter at the point that the copper arrives under our house. From there it runs about 10 metres or so via normal phone cabling into the house to a BT style jackpoint which has a BT to RJ11 adapter on it. (this is our current ADSL connection point and has always been split from the phones). 
We have a VDSL capable modem.

My question is, would our current wiring setup work with VDSL anyway? (if we can get Telecom to give it a try)
Must the modem be connected to VDSL via RJ45 or could the RJ11/BT plug still allow VDSL?

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

 


 

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

 


 

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

 



 

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 



 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.
