Hi all
we have just got a wee apartment built on our house with my mother moving into it soon.
Mum want her own connection to the place I keep telling that I don't know if she can as we have ufb but she want it her way funny old lady
.so can this be done the pot is free but can have one with the other

You help will be grateful

Assuming the copper is intact and wasn't removed with the fibre install there is no reason why not.

If work is required you will have to pay for the copper install which will be $399

So if order is put though to get the connection here it won't effect the ufb ?

Just run an ethernet cable from one of the other ONT ports to your mother's place. Then get another ISP to provision a connection on it. Even the slowest speed UFB connection will still be faster and more reliable than ADSL.

The POTS connection wont effect the UFB connection. They are two completely different networks.

Unless - your ISP Stuffs up and cancels one in favour of the other if you are ordering it on the same account :-)

If your current voice services are being delivered, via your legacey wireing around the house, and there is no additional circit in that wireing that can be used to get your mums DSL/voice from the ETP to her 'flat' then either fork out for new cabling or forgo your voice on it. Thats the only bit where the two services would/should come into conflict

That would only work if its not a Chorus area - even though Chorus ONTs can run multi RSPs they currently dont

Mum has just started her contract and won't let me pay the etc and she still wants her number and landline "the way it is" so I will order it to be moved and see how it goes and maybe drop the broadband after her contract ends

I'm not sure how Chorus does it but the fibre I install comes as 2core, which means you have a spare fibre in the ETP on the side of your house that can be used to liven a second ONT.

Just say that you can't do it. Old people can be stubborn.

If she really wants it then she can call up and sort it out.

Can your Mum keep the LL number? If she's moving exchanges that wont be the case. That might help the "You can have your own super cool modem" this being a router for LAN and wifi of her very own

that's how my chorus install is. there's a bunch of fibre wrapped up in the ETP, including a spare end.
