Thought I would give Stuff-Fibre a try after, My Republic tried to hook me into a 24 month contract with their amazing new 1Gbps connections arriving some time soon. I signed with Stuff Saturday (200/200 and just got an email tonight saying I would be connected tomorrow.

I took the "free" option with regards to routers which is the: NETGEAR R6220 1200Mbps that had some higher specced models available.

Will see what happens tomorrow.

Cheers

Just checked my address and I can get it, the 100Mb/s plan is $89.50. Apart from price I don't see much point of difference (and Bigpipe - to pick one example - is cheaper).

Hi, I can't get Bigpipe in Nelson.  I have managed to remain contract free thus far.  These guys also don't need a contract so will give them a try.  200/20 is the plan I have gone with.  I wrote 200/200 in the previous post.

Hi,
Was disconnected from My Republic as promised near 6am Friday. Their install confirmation email said Tuesday but that was wrong. It was Friday their change over date.

Well as of now I'm still not connected to anything.

Stuff Fibre uses Focus communications for their provisioning (is that how you say it?)

They have checked everything and it's all OK.

A tech is coming Monday.

So that's where I am up to....??

Just checked out their site to see what they offer. Doesn't look any cheaper, esp as many providers now give you a free month and other addons. Also if you want to use existing landline phones with it, it says it will sell you an adapter, but doesn't tell you what the price is. So that is going to turn a lot of people who want to keep some landlines.

Also doesn't look like there is any easy way to contact them, no 0800 number I can see nor any contact details at all on the website that I can easily see. For the pricing you would expect phone support. Or are they doing a bigpipe with email support only?

it really shouldn't need a tech if its just going from one provider to the other.

u sure the router is setup correctly? the correct setting and VLAN if needed?

Do you mean Vocus? Not a good start if it isn't working.

Yes of course you are right. And with two perfectly good routers and a laptop. That were all working perfectly at 0551 am before change over. He will be wasting his time.

Can't they see my gear or ONT remotely?

the ONT they should be able to but if thats all working its likely to be a configuration issue on your router

have you set it up for the new provider? username and password, correct authentication method, DHCP if needed, VLAN tagging etc?

If vocus are doing the provisioning then that means stuff fibre doesn't do it in-house, which means they have very little co trol over the experience, essentially just reselling someone else's broadband.
This would explain why they can offer force national wide from day one when other ISPs cannot. It also means problems will take longer to resolve as the 'stuff' person you contact for support will have extremely limited access to systems and extremely limited ability to do anything other than pass your I formation to vocus.

They can't. UFF and Enable lets ISPs check ONT remotely but Chorus doesn't.

just an FYI,

the routers sent out by stuff fibre are pre-configured for their connections, so it should just be plug and play,

if you want to know, stuff fibre settings are

vlan10 tag

authentication method is dhcp, no login required,

i hear they are doing voice by an app, maybe similar to ocron app,

Hi,

Ok its connected.  100/20.  I originally asked for 200/20.  So hopefully its not too far away.  Ookla reports my ISP as Odyssey Broadband.  Whoever they are?

Likely they are previous holder of the IP Ranges Stuff purchased to use and it hasn't been updated with the new details in Maxmind (The Database that Ookla uses for speedtest).
