Glad to see alot of work going into things, i was worried when snap went under 2d and mark moved on that we would stop seeing what used to be a pretty epic connectivity (be it back then quite GGI based)

The team that looks after this is still here and very focused on delivering the best network we can :-)

Side note; thankfully the tests are still being run despite my minimum usage being 20Mb/s 24/7

It really goes to show that peering actually works. On a side-note though Spark must have a bit of capacity given their testing is going via Australia... But, 2degrees still wins (also - I bet @NickMack and his team have been working some magic behind the scenes as international speeds have increased and latency has dropped ever so slightly to some places according to my node):

It is good that providers are starting to take this seriously.

Mine has finally shown up after its wee jaunt to jolly Ireland. Had it running over the weekend and starting to see a picture form. 2Degrees for me too - originally with them back in the Snap days and haven't looked back.

Other than peering in various locations there isn't much voodoo going on.... :-) The Samknows services are located at a CDN (Linnode) in the US, they advertise out of Australia then route to the US over their bankbone. We transit out of Australia and the US, however due to peering advertisements for Samknows, we route via Australia (then onto the US via Linnodes backbone) for this service. You could spend a bunch of time pulling it apart to try and peer differently, however it's risk vs. reward in terms of what else you potentially break. :-)

Well thats interesting....I have a VDSL service, this morning I logged into my SamKnows.com account and on the dashboard it says I am "Fibre 100".

I signed up as VDSL, and yesterday it was saying I was VDSL...

I will check with their customer support.

I signed up as VDSL, and yesterday it was saying I was VDSL...

I will check with their customer support.

Are you on a vdsl connection above 100mbit? Could be they are trying to smartly place your service.

come now, why would you expect anything less..

I personally would like to see it stick in nz for testing to be more true for such short tests... But its not like bandwidth usage to au for spark is anything new!

Interesting posts on nznog today.

REANNZ who host M-Labs servers have commented on the usage being somewhat unexpected for them.

Here is mine so far... 2degrees, 900/400. I wonder if I should wait a couple of weeks and replace the Synology RT2600 with the Fritz 7490 and see if there's any difference...

Here is mine after about 2 weeks, Feel like its one of the more consistent lines to AUS & NZ but not the same throughput as 2degrees to SFO or LON this is Orcon 1000/500

Nope, my VDSL has been clocking in at 60-64Mbps on SamKnows....I raised a case with customer support, their response was:

"This shouldn't have happened unless you changed your internet connection. This happened due to an error on our system."

It took 48 hours to correct my details, my SamKnows account is now showing VDSL again.

I wonder how many other testers had their service accidentally changed and not noticed?

To quote the Comcom: "It will not record any personal information or browsing history". That's good enough for me. Of more concern would be if the Whitebox was hacked, but that is the risk you take with any equipment on your network. The technical details of what it does collect are on their website.

And talking about the whitebox, mine left Qatar on September 19th (according to Royal Mail Track and Trace), but hasn't been seen since.
