@jaxta67: Do you have a master filter installed? How many telephone jackpoints are there in your house? What do you have plugged into them? Any alarm, monitored or otherwise?

@sidefx: Hi, at this time there is no master filter installed (although that will be installed next week). I have 2 jackpoints installed. 1)To run the adsl connection 2) to run the phone line. Both lines are fitted with micro filters which I have replaced several times over the past few years. As for any other devices I have none connected to the phone jacks and my alarm has not been operational for the past 3 years, the unit has been removed. Thanks for you're early reply.

Wow, yes, your attenuation is very good! For some reason I have found that on a lot of lines, 16mbit seems to be the maximum achievable speed. However, once your VDSL splitter goes in you are still setup for a very good VDSL connection - probably a 17a profile eventually!

2.5db attenuation down is quite exceptional, if that reported figure is accurate.

I had the same attenuation on ADSL2+ and was syncing at around 20mbit down, so there may be a wiring issue there, however I think if you're with telecom VDSL they are doing free splitter installs now?

For comparision when I moved to VDSL2 I sycned at 50mbit down on the 8b profile and when I was moved to the 17a profile 6 months later or so (from having a period of very low errors I believe) I attained 63mbit down.

I think you will be quite pleased with your VDSL speeds, although it can be quite an unpredictable beast so we will wait to see.

Yeah it's great to see, I can probably convince a couple of mates to get VDSL now who where initially put off by the monthly and install costs.

Here is a connection from a friend based in wellington. His attenuation is much higher but in sync speed tests we see that our connection seems very similar. I'm trying to figure out if there is anything interrupting the line. If you can figure out anything more provided this new information it would be much appreciated. Thanks

I would see how you go after the master splitter is installed. 2 jackpoints probably isn't having a huge effect; but if you've also had an alarm in the past that's another unterminated stub and who knows what else. The master splitter should remove all of that so is a good starting point.

EDIT: If you feel like DIYing something in the mean time to test this, post pictures of the inside of your ETP, first jackpoint and where the alarm used to be wired up. Someone here might be able to help you to connect your incoming pair direct to ADSL modem as a test - to see what affect your wiring is having. If you're on Naked DSL.

Otherwise yeah, with chorus splitter installs for VDSL now cheap (or free from snap\etc) that's probably the best option.

I would love to try this, unfortunately I have no experience in this field and I would rather not break something. I'll let the technician know of the old alarm so he can re-configure the wiring accordingly if any still remain. I will also provide any updates on my line and hope it all works out.

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:1,016 / 15,677

What I don't really understand is my attenuation is very low from what I know this would indicate a very good sync rate of around 20mbps.

I found some stats from when I was on ADSL:
Current throughput    17048 kbit/s (receive direction)    1272 kbit/s (send direction)
Line attenuation          0 dB (receive direction)    0 dB (send direction)
Signal-to-noise ratio    11 dB (receive direction)    12 dB (send direction)

As you can see they're not too different from yours. I had very similar wiring from the sounds of things too. So don't worry to much at this stage, wait and see how it looks with VDSL.

Hey everybody, I just signed up with SNAPs VDSL service. Technician came on Thursday afternoon and installed a master splitter into the house, and moved us to a new port in the cabinet (as existing port wasnt VDSL capable)

From what I can gather there is a bedding in DLM process that takes approximately 10 days.

Here we are at 2 days, and I am mildly concerned about the large number of CRC errors that the Fritzbox 7390 is reporting (as below).

I am currently over the road from our cabinet which our house connects to ~100m.

Should I be concerned at 2 days in, or should I just let the DLM work it's magic for the next while?

I havent made any config changes in the router at all, nor have I made any "user" reboots.

What are everybody's thoughts at this point?

Hmm, that's a bit odd! Something's not quite right there! Your attenuation is good, but your spectrum graph is showing some odd dips.

That said, snap will likely want you to wait the full 10 days to let DLM do it's initial tuning before they will look into it further. It probably won't help with the issues you have, but I think Chorus don't like to do anything until after the first 10 days.
